Hey, y'all.

Normally on the guitar side, but I'm fascinated by the Bongo. Is there a thread somewhere about the origins of the Bongo? I can't imagine how I'd go about searching for it. If i search Bongo, a gazillion unrelated threads came up.

Our esteemed moderator and lord Bongo, Bovinehost, has a most excellent piece on his web site. http://www.bovinehost.com/bongo/bongoinfo.html

I guess the questions that come to my mind are:

Why did the R&D folks choose the name Bongo? What inspired it?

What inspired the body shape?

Why did R&D choose an 18V pre?

Anyone care to chime in?

Don't know much about your other questions, but as far as the electronics go, my understanding is that Dudley had come up with some new pickups and pre-amp after some R&D work in the lab.

When the R&D people are designers based in California, do we really want to know the answer to that question:p

What are you implying?

I was doodling at work one day and I found that I can approximate a Bongo body by drawing two ellipses and erasing the parts that didn't look like a bass. This is what got me thinking about how the body was conceptualized.

The sculpted headstock makes me wonder too.
