Is there such a thing as too much choice?

This item on eBay has got me thinking about choice. I was seriously considering putting a bid in, but then I thought "Nah, TOO much choice..." It's got 2 pickups and a piezo and loads of knobs to fiddle with, and an extra string. I'd just be lost with it. I find it difficult with a SR4 and really simple practice amp(Polytone Minibrute III) to decide what particular sound I want today. One of those Bongo things would have me totally befuddled.

What might wind up happening (at least it did for me) is that you twiddle until you find a tone that you really, really love...and you just leave it there.

I've got the same setup.

I find myself boosting the low mids a bit, adding about 30% piezo, and playing around with the magnetic pickup balance a bit.

When I'm playing live, I generally find a tone that works for both pickups and then use just the pickup blend knob to change things when things need to be changed.

Some preamps/knobs are just too tough to deal with while keeping track of what's going on with the band, the mix and the horny wives out front, but the Bongo is smooth and easy.

Once I'm accustomed to a rig, I set it the same for every venue. After that, dialing in the bass is pretty easy, with minor adjustments along the way.

I prefer having a 4-band E.Q.; total control at my fingertips.
