Help! Is this a fake?

Hello fellow musicians,

someone is offering me to sell his Music Man guitar but it does not have a Ernie Ball Logo on the Headstock, only a "Music Man" logo. Do you think it's a fake? He only wants 350 Dollars for it. Either he doesn't know anything about Music Mans or he tries to sell me a fake.

It looks kind of shakey, get the serial number and post it in the Serial Number thread to check if it's real or not. That headstock logo does not look right at all. The body looks right, but the bridge again doesn't look quite right.

Neck plate have 6 screws? Post a photo... serial number should be stamped on it too! Could be a very old Silo.

The grain pattern on the body is wonky. The seams are running on a angle. Not something I've seen before on a real EBMM.

I'm with Flash on this one, the bridge and the color make me think it might be an early silhouette. But I've never seen a logo like that. Photos of the back of the headstock and the neck joint are required, and a photo of the serial number. Then get in touch with customer service and have them check it (we have a sticky thread for that purpose incidentally).

According to the expert (

), the first Silouette was presented at NAMM in '85; at that time it didn't have that name,. this was given in '86 but it did have the truss rod wheel which is missing in the pictures of this questionable guitar. It also had an "Ernie Ball" logo not "Music Man" and it did not have the string bar on the head.

I thought so. Everything about this instrument looks wrong. Headstock is wrong, there's a retainer bar with no need for one, weird bridge, pickup/control spacing is way off, inlays are too large.

Definitely not one of the early pre-logo ones that don't have silhouette written anywhere. I've got a 1986 and it's nothing like this. . I'd avoid, even at half the price...
