Hello everybody! I'm looking to upgrade my Sterling 5 and someone is offering me this MM Stingray5 pickup at a good price.

Allegedly it is an original from an MM Stingray 5.

Does this look legit? I'm curious about the serial number.

Thanks for your time!

What kind of "Sterling 5" do you have? Do you mean a Sterling by Musicman 5 string? Or an EBMM Sterling 5?

Because, I'm pretty sure that's a Stingray 5 Ceramic pickup.. which is identical to the pickup in the Sterling 5, which was launched when they changed the Stingray 5 to have Alnico polepiece pickups.

Ok, so you have a SBMM Stingray 5. I don't know whether that pickup will work without some modifications to the bass you have. That pickup is for an EBMM Stingray 5 with a preamp that works with the "phantom coil", so it would normally have a three way switch for series, single coil, and parallel modes.

The phantom coil is on the bottom, and most likely your bass is not routed for that, so you would need to have the pickup cavity on the bass you have enlarged. Also the pickup cover is a different shape, so you would need to modify or replace your pickguard.
