That is an original earthwood acoustic mass. My dad started earthwood I think in around
1971 with George Fullerton The idea was to make acoustic basses first and acoustic guitars. George and my dad clashed and my dad locked the factory up. Later reopening it with dan Norton and Ron Saul with a shallower depth model and some interesting 1/2 scale acoustics. Dan is still with us and maybe i can convince him to post some of this.

Dan Norton just told me this is an early Earthwood. He says it was a '71 design, and a '72 production model. It looks like is an 8" body instead of a 6" one.

Yeah BP that would be pretty cool....shame they are so hard to come by these days, they are a stunning acoustic - and from what I remember had a decent tone to them too. (could be nostalgia though)

Looking at the size of that body its a surprise the blood did not pool in the hands or the elbow!!! :D

So many questions BP.....how long was it made for? Why did it stop being made? (obviously apart from the amount of wood - a small forest - it looks like it needed)

There were still a few Earthwoods in music stores when I moved to Houston - maybe 1975 or 1976. They were tremendous beasts, to be sure.

Like most ABGs, they weren't terribly loud but they did have tone for days.

A friend of mine had one for a while in the 70s...it was like carrying around a tuba.

Fun basses, though.

I'd love to try one out, never seen one in the flesh.

Here's another cool photo, of Carl Radle playing a Stingray and some bloke using Musicman amps...
