Bit of useless trivia ....

That pic of Carl Radle playing the 'ray.

Umm.... I could be wrong about this,
but I bought my current '76 ray from a guy that used to play for Delaney Bramlett for a while, and he mentioned (via email) something about Carl using the bass as well. Cant find the email, and I'm no expert, but........
I think I'm currently playing that bass

Doesnt look quite that prisitne any more

Ok....I'll see what I can rattle up.

I do have a camera, but I honestly dont know how to play it.

they will be dodgy, at best...but I will take a couple for you.

When I bought this bass (Gav can confirm some of this)
I bought it from a guy that had very little english going on.
Gav told me that he had seen the bass for sale a few months before, with a white pick up (its black now)
So I tried to get the story straight, and didnt really get anywhere,
so the seller put me in touch with the original owner, who he had bought it from several months earlier.
The original owners name is Bob, and he had a couple of old Rays, as he was selling instruments when the stingray came out..
When he sold mine to the guy I got it from, the guy's translator mate asked did he have any black pickup covers, because the buyer didnt like white ones!
So Bob swapped them for him before selling.
The pickup is completely stock '76, I had to check for myself, after hearing that.
Also Bob told me that after he had bought his first '76, a few months later, he was demonstrating a new one for a customer, and couldnt believe how light it was, compared to the one he had at home, and all the others in the shop.
So he bought it.
And thats the one I have now. Not only is it a killer bass, with all the good ol' stuff going on, its light!
A Bit of Swamp Ash must have crept into the pile, or something.
I can stand up and play it for hours with no issues, which is something I could never do with my old beast, even 20 years ago.
Bob did mention that it was used for a couple of Delaney Bramlet albums, but I didnt really care that much, at the time.
Anyway, Dodgy pics will follow

gee ... I dont seem to be able to upload these pics without them being over the 100kb limit.
Something tells me I'm not doing it right.
do you attach them?
umm
I might just go and hang with the geeks and new guys, untill someone drags me kicking and screaming into this century.
The photos really arent that great.
If I get some landing instructions, I'll post them, otherwise
....its a '76 natural Stingray, with the nastiest case of buckle rash I've seen in some time.
I'm sure you can picture it.
All this talking about it....I might have to go play it for a bit

I found a Guitarron for pretty cheap and it is loud. Played in double octave stops makes it loud.

Still loud when played single string

I bought one in 75 or 76 in LA. It was the later incarnation, nice neck but needed the arms of a great ape to operate the thing. SOunded nice, low volume, beautifully finished and the neck was very comfortable. The body however was another thing entirely.
