This Stingray is on ebay and I am thinking about bidding on it. But I would like to ask my fellow Stingray fans if they think this bass is an original color or is it a refin. I know they offered unique colors like this in the late 80's early
90's but I have never seen one in Robin Egg Blue. If it is a refin I have no interest in buying it. Some input please.

I don't think I've ever seen one in that color.

If it IS a refin, it looks nicely done.

What does the seller want for it?

I was told by the seller that he bought it this way used and did not know if it was original or not. He dated it as a 1990. It looks beautiful. But I am a stickler for originality. If it is a refin I just could not justify buying it seeing how I am about to order a Big Al 5.

I was hoping that someone from EB could chime in on this one.

I'd check it out carefully before bidding. Looks to me like an older, likely refinished body with a newer/replacement neck--4-bolt attachment with truss rod wheel adjuster. I'm not sure that combination was ever offered--even as a one-off--and I have no idea what sort of changes were needed to make that combination work.

Thanks for the info so far. I have seen a lot of stingrays in my time and never saw this color. And I had never heard of any made in this color.
Which leads me to believe it's a refin. I did not realize the serial # was incomplete as well.

Refin, this bass was Blueburst with a changed neck but still cool.

Judging by your icon picture I can safely assume that you are the almighty in musicman land. :) I kinda fiquired it was a refin. I didn't know it had a changed neck as well. It's so nice to have this forum. Thanks to all.

That serial comes up as a Blueburst StingRay from March 1990, and it looks like it originally had a maple fretboard
