Pete....been there. It is frustrating, but the most important part, no one was hurt. Hopefully you did not get too much damage and things will get back to NorMal for you.

Glad everyone is OK Pete, life is so much more important than possesions and inventory, good to have an electrician in the family, now I need to update my fire prevention system.

I work at a certain not-for-profit company that does third party product safety certification, and in particular investigate commercial fire alarm control panels. Unlike most of what my company does, we verify the panels continue to operate through a battery of tests (different ambient conditions, voltage mains fluctuations, various transients). I also sit on a chapter of the National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72) and know first hand how important it is to have the proper fire system installed and maintained.

Pete, I obviously don't know what the fire code requires in your area, but having a small system installed that also transmits events to a central monitoring station might not be a bad idea, especially from a property and inventory point of view. It might even help with lowering your insurance.

Glad everything turned out for the best.
