...since I got my JPX7 and I thought I would share some thoughts about it that may address questions people might even still have.
I was concerned about ebony. I've always had trouble with it... my fingers would sweat just a bit and would kinda stick to it when I would bend notes. I never understood this because my hands and fingers never sweat. But, ebony had that power. lol Well, with the JPX I've never had the slightest problem, and I REALLY LOVE the look of the ebony with the purple and the black hardware. I think part of the reason why I don't have any problem is because of something else I was worried about....
The larger frets. This is just a matter of, when you love something the way it is... what if a change is the one thing that makes a guitar like your second favorite or something. So far... I've never once had the slightest thought about the frets while I'm playing a gig, or practicing.
The pickups and chambering. I consider this a combo deal. I LOVE the DSonic in my JP6 BFR. It's grindy, loud, cutting, and just huge. So, I wasn't sure if the eq curve of the Crunch Lab would fit what I'm doing. Well, the chambering and that pickup make for a HUGE, bassy, thick, and saturated sound. I'd still want a backup guitar with a D Sonic so when I break a string, or whatever, things are the same, but the Crunch Lab for a 7 string is just perfect. I've always thought the seven strings I had before were a bit too single coil sounding (because its so hard to not get tubby and over bassy on that big string.) This one is just right.
I have the hybrids on it. 9 on the little strings and 56 on the big guy. Plays perfectly.
I always wondered if another guitar would ever feel just so so in my hands like my BFR... especially a 7 string, which I had been able to use fine before, but was always kinda glad to get back to the 6 string. This thing is just wonderful. I change because of the sounds I want now, not because I want to get back to the 6 string asap.
Oh yeah... the thing is just the coolest looking guitar EVER!
