I would rather the movie had just been about Page. I think he is a way more interesting individual than the other two. The Edge is a cool guy and great player, but not exactly a personality. Jack White is no Jack Black. I'll leave it at that.

I got the DVD for my birthday recently. I enjoyed it. I dig the White Stripes. I'll probably watch it again this weekend and play along with my new Albert Lee HH :)

I can never get enough Page ... I've got all the Yardbirds albums on vinyl.

In recent years I've become a huge fan of the Edge, really enjoyed that.

Jack White ... hasn't quite grown on me. A lot of my friends like his work, but I'm still trying to get him.

I have seen this movie/documentary. let me say right off that I LOVE jimmy page, think The Edge is good (i am not a big U2 fan but appreciate The Edge's playing) and i don't think much of jack White.

the documentary was pretty good. it brought the three of them together in one room where they talked about what their musical influences are etc.. while also breaking off into each of their individual stories.

IMHO they didn't show that much on Page, he being the biggest legend of the three, they went to Headly Grange (where I believe the legendary 4th album was created) and Page talked a little about how the recordings where done etc..

the Edge story was the most interesting. He talked about the beginnings of U2 how they met and they actually went to his high school and showed where they first played etc.. he explained his guitar rig and man is it large!!!

jack Whites piece was the worse, he just came off as arrogant. he talks how he believes other guitar players try to do too much with gear and how he only likes to play crappy guitars, his main guitar is a plastic Sears special... i don't know too much about him but i have to say his guitar playing was nothing special he looked like an amateur compared to the other two great guitarists. of all the other guitarist out there they could have included why did they choose Jack White??????

Jack White has the respect of so many musicians because of his approach. By no means is he the greatest guitar player in the world, nor does he claim to be. But he's got soul and imagination. Similar to what Nirvana brought to the table.....he shows young kids that you don't need to be a virtuoso to enjoy making music.

Pimple on his Ass

People criticizing Jack White. The one negitive thing about the

internet and message boards and ignorant critiques are spawned.

This is not directed at anyone here of course  But some

are not even a Pimple on Jack White's ass. Probably one of the

hardest working Rock and Rollers out there. He was sitting there

for a reason. pay attention. :)

lookin forward to seeing this alright as its looks like a great show. The Edge is an amazing talent IMHO as his playing isnt that technical but the tones he manages to reproduce are out of this world with the FX he uses.
theres no one else that sounds like him so hes unique in that respect.

My take:

Jimmy Page came off great, humble for everything, I think Edge was honest about his effect addiction and doesn't really see himself as a guitar hero as much as a working guitarist representing Dublin. And I don't think Jack White would be much fun to hang with.

Jack's self-proclaimed desire to play the blues and become Son House seem forced to me, and he's always complaining about something. Next to the other two, he's not really a very capable guitarist. He's a great entertainer and songwriter, but maybe a real bluesman to illustrate the simplicity of the instrument in its rawest form would have been better, which I think was supposed to be his role. Understand that I back many Old Blues Dudes, so I am not the best critic of his approach.

Edge seems to never have forgot where he came from, and how it was all fate that U2 ever even met. And Edge is the only one who drives himself around!

Page just makes music, his solo noodling and ease with the instrument are one of the highlights for me, and I was not a Zep fanboi. Page is the real music genius of the three.

The two scenes that stay with me are both with Page, one where they are in the room where the Zep drum tracks were recorded for the Levee Breaks (by accident), and of course the genuine smiles all around when he launches into the opening riff for "Whole Lotta Love".

I thought the editing was real choppy at times, it hard to follow who was talking at some points. I wish they would have stuck with one character a little longer to take it all in. I was also surprised how little actual footage was used from the meeting of the three. I wonder what's on the cutting room floor.

I do think that they could have found a "guitarist" to fill the 3rd spot instead of JW. He's a frontman/songwriter/singer who happens to play guitar. I can think of several more qualified young guitarists who could have represented todays genre better than JW.

In regards to Edge and Page, I think anyone that is the guitarist for a band that could arguably be called "the greatest rock band ever", would have to be considered a good (if not great) guitarist. Just because they don't shred doesn't mean they aren't good.

The thing I like about Jake White is his sense of rhythm. Just does something for me. One guitar, one drummer and they pull it off nicely.

just finished watching the film and it was a great documentary on three musicians whom have impacted the major music scene.

One thing that i really stuck out to me was somewhere towards the end when Page, Edge and Jack are jammin slide guitar you have Edge Playin a Gretsch, Page playin a Gibson and Jack playin a beat up Kay... and the tone was there and he wasn't out of place at all... it think it goes to show that good tone can be achieved with just about anything if you put in the time...

For me being able to see the journey that Zep took was incredible and to see the same thing with U2 (one of my favorite bands) and the end jam was fun to watch... it kinda reminded me of all us knuckleheads comin from different walks of life and experiences and finding common ground around music and our beloved guitars....

i'd advise anyone and everyone to watch it...
