Itchy Fingers: Wanna Mod My Silo

Hi Guys..


I just bought Jon "OrangeChannel" Desert Gold Silhouette with Piezo..


The guitar configuration is H-S-H.. The problem is, I have too many H-S-H guitar.. I have 7 PGMs with H-S-H Config, and 1 Silhouette 20th anniv..


I was thinking to make it more strat-ish, so I need my fellow forumite input..


1. I wanna make sure.. I can make the guitar to SSS by getting an SSS piezo pickguard right?

2. What kind of single coil that will be good for my Silo? I prefer dimarzio, just because I've been using it all the time.. I am looking for an aggressive pickup in the neck for bluesy kind of solo and nice twang bridge pickups like AL..

3. I always see that Silhouette with piezo have a metal knob.. Can I change it to regular plastic one?

4. What color of pickguard do u think will be a good match for the desert gold silhouette?



I haven't receive the guitar yet.. If I like the H-S-H one, I will keep it and buy another Silo SSS ..

By the way, anybody here like Richie Kotzen? I love his work.. I wish he play musicman.. Here's a present for those of you that open this thread.. I like his cover of Sara Smile and I like his tone too..

I put a Dimarzio Chopper in the neck position and LOVED it. Sounded fantastic. I also HIGHLY recommend the Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell, single coil-ISH sound, but humbucker size.

Modding is fun.

1. Not sure, but I believe you can.
2. Not sure.
3. Metal knobs use solid-shaft pots. Plastic ones use split-shaft. You would have to switch out the pots to make that change.
4. I'd go with either black or black ice, but that's just my opinion.

Oh yeah, my axis with piezo came with metal knobs, but I changed them to plastic no prob.

I personally love the EBMM HSH combo. Great tones. See what you think when you get it! The SSS Silo Special has great tones also.

I think if I had a str@t, I would be lookin' to try and get it to sound like an EBMM!
