Matt -I know you've been waiting for a while and it looks totally worth the wait. Congratulations. I had a chance to play a 25th at a local GC this weekend and loved it. I really am happy for you.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin, you helped make it possible
Wow, beautiful beautiful instrument!!!!!! And congrats on a beautiful daughter too!!! And a music loverDo I sense a future MM addict
Congrats again!! I am curious to the tones you are getting once you threw flats on... I am a slinker, but I bet it sounds perfect.
Maybe, her momma thinks she will go the Guitar / Drums / Flute route.... I think she'd make a great bassist myself!
The tones are awesome. I will elaborate more as I play and compare with the Stingray. The response of the bass was incredible with the Slinks.... if you like that sound, the 25th will rock your world. It really has that sparkle and shine thing going on in massive quantities. The sound with Slinks was like a diamond, Crystal Clear, and full of life. The flats are choice for me because they do what flats do.... accentuate the thump, boom, and mellow things out a bit. For me the flats with the S's really just feel like home for a lack of better description. More to come though.
Yeah, real nice, your instrument - I like the finish!
But what I don't like about all that new stuff (e.g. BigAl) is that those basses are no longer as simple as they used to be. Know what I mean? Takes too long to set 'em up for a nice sound. To mind, all you should need to do is to just plug your bass to a nice amp and go for it. But that's no longer possible with all that buttons and stuff.... That's why I'll stay with my StingRays (maybe a Sterling one day). Just my 0,02 EUR![]()
I can understand that. I am a geek at heart, and have a knob and switch fetish.... so the 25th is right up my alley. What MrM said is very true though.... you don't necessarily have to memorize the panel... just know what works. It really is very intuitive too. Three pickups... three buttons... if you happen to turn them all "off"... instead you get the Bridge H in series and wake everyone up pretty darn good. The active passive switch is all the way on the right and spaced a bit differently from the PUP selectors.... Bongo pre-amp, and a tone knob instead of Pan. Well, yeah that is a lot... but it really isn't bad once you've messed with it. It makes perfect sense in your hands.
Matt... awesome looking bass! If it sounds as good as it looks you really have something there. Interested to here your impressions as soon as you get some play time on it. Thinking i may have to order another bass this year. JOSH
I do plan to elaborate more on it after I kind of figure out my feelings on certain settings.
My first impression is that it really is versatile, and the next is that it has a really full spectrum response. The sound coming out feels really "clean".... The punch of finger plucking over the bridge H is sooo punchy.... and the bottum end of the nech S is very rich and tasty. I love the middle S too for just an all around fun, fat, tone with personality. I think I am digging the two "S"'s together, with a bit of EQ magic in active, or just straight up in passive. The bridge H doesn't suit me solo'd, but it adds great character when mixed with the other two. Some will LOVE the single H in series. It sounds so different then the other pickups... or even the bridge H on a Ray due to position. Like I said, not my bag, but I can see someone falling in love with it for "heavier" kinds of music. Still getting used to frets again though.
Thanks to everyone else for their kind words as well. I will try to get something a bit more in depth together this weekend. In the meantime I will be glad to answer whatever questions I can.
