So I just found out today that my fretted 5 string Desert Gold Bongo has arrived back home in Vancouver/Victoria (the possible cause to the recent 6.7 quake?....) and no you didn't read wrong...... it's FRETTED!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!! I guess when the order went in it wasn't made clear to switch it from fretted to a fretless model, oh well. Monkeee you'll beat me to the punch but that's fine 'cause atleast now I'm finally in the club!
Now the dilemma. It's in Vancouver, I'm in Alberta then on my way to the Northwest Territories then off to Lincoln New Hampshire........ so not until about August 4th-5th will I be able to pick it up. Dammit! :( oh well, another 2 weeks won't absolutely kill me. So I should have pix by the 6th

such bitter sweetness :D

Wow...I'm both happy and sad for you, then.

So, are you cool with it being fretted, or do you plan to send it back and get it fretless?

As for it being back home while you're on the road--that's better than not having a gig and being able to pick it up immediately, right?

I hope that means good things for my fretless (better be fretless....). Hey, EB guys--feel free to bring my fretless to NAMM. I'll pick it up there.

No, I'm not gonna send it back.... it's a Bongo !!!! :p As for the the gigging part, yes, this month is really busy so it's a pleasant pain in the arse(not having to do the "day-job" for a month Woo-Hoo!!). I will definitely be ordering up a fretless as soon as I get home though..... toying with the idea of a single H and piezo..... thoughts?

peter

ps. RE: NAMM..... bugger!!!!!! I've never been and am in NH when it's in Nashville... last year I was in Atlanta... argh!!! :)

Single Humbucker and piezos is what I have planned for my next (and, last) Bongo. Desert Orange with White Ice guard.

So, yeah, I approve. :D

This is the last year for Nashville NAMM, so I'm sure it'll be a doozie. Oh, sorry--was I rubbing it in? I hate when that happens. ;) I'm taking my digital camera and 160 MB of flash cards, so I'll be sure to document as best I can.

How about a HSP config? The Bov says it's more refined. I bet you can get an awesome fretless tone with that one.

I am leaning toward ordering a fretless HH and Piezo. I found it too noisey with the single coil. The dual H with the Piezo seems like a nice set of options. Still trying to decide on the color! I will most likely be using Fender Nylon Filament Roundwounds (Black Strings) on the fretless and keeping that in mind when trying to pick the color.

Go for the white Bongo. :D An excellent contrast, I would say.

I'll try and do that, but last time my bandwidth was eaten away rather quickly, so I won't post anything unless I can find a file host.

I have never had a problem with running the neck pickup solo on a Jazz Bass, so I don't see myself having many problems with the Bongo--plus, I love the sound of a neck single coil with fretless. Add in some piezos, and I think I have a serious cure fo GAS on the way...

I just put some La Bella black tapewounds on my fretted Bongo, and put the black ice pickguard back on there, too:

It sounds amazing, and I even played a 5 hour gig on Sunday night without tearing my fingers to pieces. I haven't tried the Fender tapes, but the LaBellas kick serious booty.

Coincidentally, I took the color of my fretted Bongo into consideration when I ordered my fretless. I wanted something that would allow the two Bongos to look great next to each other on stage, so I went with white. :D

So how do these strings sound compared to normal round wound strings?

ya, kind of puts a bit of a damper on the fretless tracks for my project but there's a guy in town who turned his maple boarded SR5 into a fretless, that should be fun but now I know I'll want to replace a bunch of the old tracks I did on SR5 with the BONGO!!! :D so know onto to figuring out a colour for the fretless (the H/SC+piezo sounds good for the pu's)

I have TI Flats on my Bongo 5, TI Flats on the Bongo 4 HSC and LaBella Deep Talking Flats on the Bongo 4 HH.

Flats on a Bongo just sound.....amazing.

I second the flats on a Bongo. I am pretty sure that the black tapewound La Bellas are the Deep Talking Flats with the nylon wrap. I'm getting some serious thump, and still sound crystal clear. I was just planning on leaving the tapes temporarily, but they might have taken up permanent residence on the Bongo 5HHP.

Good thought. My fretted Bongo (on order) is Sapphire Black.

I am seriously wanting to order either Graphite Pearl or Medallion Gold. :)

Haven't really seen good pics of Egyptian Smoke to judge by :(
