How does the G&L neck compare to the SR? I'm talking about how wide and how thin. What about balance?

i wouldnt say you cant get a dirty sound from it. the bassist for hot water music used a G & L on their album " a flight and a crash", it has a nice dirty sound to it. i guess i just all depends on your amp settings.

The neck seems more narrow, this five doesn't feel much wider than my SR4. Because of the way the neck is built with the middle being a little flat, it feels just about the same thickness as my SR4. I've only played it so far sitting down without a strap, but it does seem to be well balanced. I will have a chance to do some more exact comparisons this weekend.

I've only had a short time to play with it, but I am able to dial in a much harsher sound on my SR4 on the same amp I was using last night (not that I use that sound, but I know it's there). I tried just about every combination of p'up/pre-amp combination and everything seemed pretty smooth and clean.

I just thought of another question, does it use the same american electronics and hardware like the Lakland Skylines use from the american Laklands?

The p'ups are the same as the USA G&Ls, but I think the other electronics are made in Korea.

Cool, thats good to know. I think I might have to check into one of those.

Hey nismaniac - I seen your sig says you have a Lakland 55-02. I have one also - but have you ever tried a 55-01?

I have never tried a 55-01. I bet they are awesome basses as well. I was just playing my Lakland last night, thinking, man this is a nice bass.

What color is yours by the way?

OK, I'm opening this thread back up because I sent the G&L back and got a Lakland Skyline 55-01. I think I'll keep this one. I like it a lot. I think it will be a good complement to my SR4. Got the Cherryburst w/rosewood. The G&L had a scratchy treble pot and I didn't like the string spacing being as close as it was.

You're probably better off. I like my Lakland 55-02! Plus it does a decent Stingray mimic!
