There you go, trust me this bass is far more than "it will do" the Roasted run is a stellar bass, the Ebony board combines with the neck perfectly for some serious tonal bliss as it is another major component to this tone monster. I found the finish the best gloss I've ever played also. Congrats Tuna, you're about to be very happy, really glad to see your getting a high echelon Reflex. all the best bro, Rick
Currently there is a set of Fodera Victor Wooten strings on there and have been for about a month. I haven't played the bass since I got the Bongo 6 HS PDN.
Landline: Thanks so much man, I really appreciate the encouragement. I was a little hesitant on the glossy neck but input from yourself on this and a few other things really helped me out here. Thanks for taking the time with all the PMs!
Keko: Great videos man, I must have played them a dozen times or so. Kekos Reflex Videos Thanks for taking the time to put that together!
Jlepre, Holdsg, KevinM, Bassmonkee etc yall were big helps with PMs & questions for sure!
Bass Control: Thanks for being patient with me there bro, congrats on your honey roasted Bongo.
Very nice, congratulations on the new bass! I love the BFR Roasted Necks. Wait until you see it in person too. Those necks are amazing. Photos don't do them justice.
The bass is in ! and... yes... its in the classifieds!
Heres why: I was expecting a Sterling HH with a 4 band EQ really. Considering the pickup location & ceramic magnets, I thought it would be near exact. This thing definitely has a tone of its own... and its a good deal warmer, with more punch. It could be that I'm unfamiliar with the Fodera Wooten strings... I love EBMM Slinkies myself, love em!! I gotta put a pair on this bass just to be sure.
I'm going to really toy around with it tonight but my impressions are that I'm looking for something aggressive for alternative covers etc. I'm going to let myself get used to the new tone and let it grow on me... not that its bad but its different from what I have built up in my mind. I have the Bongo & Reflex plugged into my mixer & headphones & I can go quickly between the two... this Reflex HH5 is certainly warmer than the Bongo especially on the D & G strings.
The passive mode is pretty awesome, actually my favorite when I thought it would be a nice to have... it sounds really vintage, more than I thought... a tone the others can't quite get.
Switching from series to parallel is awesome. I've found parallel to be more aggressive which really surprised me.
I'm going to roll with this bass as is for a few days & then drop a new pair of strings on it when I get the chance & reassess if the bass thats really warm or the bass. I would never have put it up for sale so quickly if I was wasn't worried about missing out on the honey roasted Sterling HH5 still hanging around.
So... enough jabbering & heres to a few hours of rocking out to music!
Yeah I gotta try something else but I really think the natural character of this bass is warmth. Its pretty cool actually. It has a nice round tone on the upper strings which my Sterling can't get, no way, no how.
It may take a few days until I get a new pair of strings on it.
Guy took really good shape, practically new. These are pretty much impossible to try in the wild so I gave it the good ole college try. Its a cool warm bass & I'll enjoy it until it sells, it will be my church bass & the Bongo HH will remain as my aggressive beast for punk rock.
I'll get by just fine I only posted it right away to get a crack at the Sterling HH5 Honey Roasted as I know the Sterling will be super aggressive.
Actually the glossy neck way better than I expected... I thought just like you, i hated gloss necks but this one still lets me fly around it.
I'm going to put some new strings on it... but I'll keep it up for sale to grab the Honey Roasted finishes I love. It's going to be fun to play around while I still have it for sure
