I've given it some thought.

See, I'm a secret bongo lover. Well, I love the shape, and I think the sound is amazing. But every time I play one, something about it just turns me back to the Stingrays and Sterlings.

So I've been thinking about it lately and I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not ready for it. It's too much bass for me.

When I am ready though.... ohhhh I'm trusting the guys that know a thing or two and going with the single H.

I love them, except when I'm playing one. Somebody could play one then hand it to me, and I'd love it when he/she played it, and something would turn me off as soon as I lay hands on it.

I really think it's just too much of a bass. It's too good.

No offense Russell, but I don't buy that. It doesn't make sense. Obviously a person doesn't pass on something they really like because it's too good. I get the impression this may just be your politically correct way of saying you haven't found your sound on it. But I think if you spent a little time orienting to the Bongo preamp, you'd find your sound and you'd be sending pictures.

Edit: Disclaimer: I fully acknowledge that I may be way off on this (I was wrong once before), it's just a hunch. But what do I know.


But even if that doesn't happen, you're set with your other EBMMs of course, so ya can't go wrong.

I have both SR4H and a Bongo 4HH and I find that you have to sit down with each and play with the EQ for quite some time to find that sweet combination that reflects the tone you have in your head. As for the feel, they absolutely are different but I would not say one is better than the other, just different.

I find the SR to be like an old buddy you can just hang out with and know you can count on them. The Bongo feels a little more formal and is like that really smart friend that kind of makes you feel a little dumb but they are not doing it on purpose. It really is about being intimidated by something different.

Didn't mean to get all "Doctor Phil" on you but I was trying to voice how I feel about my playing either bass.

Bottom line is that these instruments are tools for us to express ourselves and we just need to learn how to use and control them. I am still working on feeling more comfortable with the Bongo because it is an awesome tool to have in the kit.

Gotcha. It's interesting how different people respond to various aspects of the Bongo. For example, I loved the feel as soon as I strapped one on for the first time - hadn't even plugged in yet. But it's all subjective.
