I've played basses from pretty much all the bass manufacturers. I've played basses that were close to 5k, made with "exotic" woods, and fancy electronics, and i've yet to come across a bass that sounds or plays better than a musicman. Although I still don't have one, next year after I get out of school I play to buy one. I can't wait!

As someone eloquently put it one day, «if you don't get a musicman now, you'll want one later». So if you want one now you'll be simply advancing your life span. :D

Be well,

Ricardo.

I often question when people say they need a bass from a "Boutique " builder (not that thats what you were saying). I've always thought of EBMM as a boutique builder. Every instrument they make is built to order right? And you are right on when saying that an EBMM bass plays and sounds as well and even better than higher end alternatives.

And most of the boutique builders are just that: builders. The build basses out of parts they buy from somebody else. EBMM makes their own bodies, necks and pickups.

I have two basses - a Roscoe LG3000 and a MusicMan Bongo 4 H/H. The build quality, playability, and sonic flexibility of the Bongo are all clearly superior to the Roscoe. The Roscoe is no slouch but if I had to pick just one I'd take the MusicMan without a second thought. It's also nice to know that if something happened to my Bongo I could pick up another locally and without delay (so long as I'm not particular about color).

This thread made me go back to my records and make a count; I've owned 69 different basses over the years, all kinds, all types. I've currently got a couple of "boutique basses" and I enjoy them, but I keep coming back to this blue pearl Sterling. I have it listed for sale (again), but I hope to find a way to keep it. It's sound is just SO freakin' cool... best of all the EB/MM's I've owned.

Here's to a great bass maker! :)
