In the MARKBASS club! Just picked the MarkII up on Sunday, and I'm loving the size/weight difference and bonus knob. :) Strangely enough the person I bought this from had it in a rack and included the rack in the sale for free, so it looks pretty strange hovering in the rack's huge open space (but I like the protection aspect of it, and the price). Only got around to playing it today, but I already knew the forum hype was true as it's pretty similar to the Mark I. The old amp is now on ebay, but I will definitely miss the yellowness of it. Any UK forumites wanting to check out the MarkBass sound should consider checking out my auction. No bids and 15 watchers, so I assume this one is going down to the wire.

But, I should just be happy with what I already have, so I will exercise great restraint and not bid. :(

Sorry, Dave.

Hey no problem bassmonkey! I'm not worried about this amp selling, I'm relatively confident it will, and I just offed my old cabs on ebay and the buyer was actually the dude who runs one of my band's rehearsal spaces, and he used buy it now, so I didn't even take a loss on them. :) Funnily enough the same guy bought my old SWR amp about 6 months ago, so I may even show up to rehearsal one day and get to play through my old rig!

As for the link Randy, it's at:

I assume you suggested I post it so that people can check it out more easily, but I didn't want to look like I was selling a non-MusicMan product on BP's forum, as much as he likes (and already promotes) MarkBass.

So fellow LMII owners, do you have a favourite VLE/VPF combo setting you can recommend? I'm curious what other bassists are likin' the sound of.

Quite interesting this Mark Bass frenzy we have going here. I heard the rigs in Dallas and also played through a couple of different models in Guitar Centre while I was over there. I also listened to a couple of the Knuckleheads who can actually play(as opposed to me who knows a couple of riffs and wiggles his fingers  ), so got to hear a number of styles, basses and settings through the amp. To be honest I really was not that impressed. I was expecting this amazing revelation of an amp and it just wasn't there. Perhaps I am just strange. :)

They do seem to be in vogue at the moment...must be something about them.

Will be trying one out this weekend but to be honest am looking at the King head from Ashdown as an upgrade.

I reckon you will sell that little beauty though Dave..

..

Interestingly I tried Ashdown out when I was looking for a rig. I settled on Gallien Krueger in the end. The Ashdown seemed a little harsh and clinical at the time. However, I recently used one of the big combos in a rehearsal room and it sounded fine. I guess 15mins in a music shop is not really enough to know if you will like an amp or not.

Not really strange, as everyone's idea of what makes a great sounding amp will no doubt differ considerably. To be honest I'm also more of a finger wiggler, and haven't actually even TRIED a lot of different amp brands (apart from the ones in the various rehearsal spaces I've played in, and I believe most of those were knackered/damaged). All I know is I picked up the Mark I quite cheaply on ebay, and I really liked the sound of it, so the bonus portability and extra features of the Mark II made it a pretty obvious choice for me.

I know there is also a lot of love for GK on this forum, so I would definitely like to play through some of their equipment some day, but unfortunately there just isn't a wide variety of equipment to try in my immediate area. At gigs I've played through Ashdown, Ampeg and a few others, and in my opinion I'll stick with the MarkBass (for now). Bass players can be pretty fickle in my experience.

:D

I know what you mean. Like Dave said the sound in your head is probably different to mine. But hey end of the day we all have great taste in basses :D
