I used to not like the Mullmuzzler projects. Some how didn't click with me. So I ignored his releases from then on.

Then recently, I got curious, and got myself a copy of Static Impulse. geez! I was floored! His solo albums under his own name were very different. I got Elements Of Persuasion at the same time. Also another killer album!

Not that much prog here, but good old straight a head metal.

Any one heard SI yet?

Yep got it on release. Amazing! His singing sound much more natural than it does in DT for some reason.. And I love it! Killer album. :)

Hopefully James will be a bit more free to sing in his own style on the DT albums now that MP ain't around....he's got a great voice that seems constrained in Dream Theater....his voice on the covers CD with BCASL is awesome.....

His solo efforts so far have been really good....

I haven't checked the liner notes on this one, but on the last one, Marco played JPs....

Mike

Yeah, now he plays guitars that are, pretty much, extremely similar to the JP models right down to the 4x2 headstock... Go figure.

Static Impulse is pretty good. Nothing earth-shattering, for sure, but a great release for the man. Too bad he had to cancel his tour! :(

Yeah. Marco plays Rash guitars. I do think he's playing EB strings (went to his website).

I was looking forward to seeing JLB on tour this year. Would have been a good show. Apparently something happened with work visas. I couldn't imagine it was for him since he works in the US all the time. Maybe Marco or one of the other guys...

Static impulse has some good riffs/moments, but I feel it's very straight forward IMHO. Maybe it's the mix of growling vocals, but for me something is off. And comes from a guy that enjoys Opeth immensely. I'm sure a lot of people will like it.

Elements of persuasion, for me is THE JLB release. I love that album.

Marco's solos seem to be really low in the mix on Static Impulse. I've listened to the album a good ten times or so now and come this conclusion. Either it's that or they're just not as memorable as the ones he did on Elements.

There is EBMM JP's are the guitars being used. I think JP Actually sent over the guitars.

He used EBMM's on the Labrie solo album, Elements of Persuasion in 2005. He borrowed them from John to record. Since then, he has been endorsed by Rash, but does use EB strings.

Got this from an interview with Marco;

CGB: How did your endorsement with Rash Guitars come about?

Marco Sfogli: It happened soon after the Elements of Persuasion tour, back in 2005. I was a Music Man guy, played the whole record and the following tour with Petrucci guitars and felt it was the right time to have something different, something more personal.

I contacted several other companies, some of them very big in the biz but didn’t get any reply so I came across a sort of video footage of a showcase held in Italy and there were these beautiful guitars at some point. Dropped an email to Ruggero at Rash and he was kind enough to send me a prototype which was awesome. It just felt mine from the first time, the quality of the neck and the body shape, everything was just perfect. With some tweakings we came out with the signature model which is exactly what I’m using right now since.
