I think that a common misconception is the age of many of the forum members here. I don't want to speak for everyone, but a lot of us are older than you would think. I myself have been working for 25 years to get some of the things I want. I didn't have a nice guitar until I was 27 years old. I don't think there are many 16 year old guitarists posting on this forum.

Entirely agree.

I was 13 when I started - I was lucky enough to have parents that bought me my first guitar as a joint birthday and Christmas present (one advantage of a Feb birthday).

I played this through a pair of really crappy powered headphones for a year while I saved up for my first amp (proudly bought in Macaris in London and carried with great difficulty along Charing Cross Road to the tube station to get it home).

I am now 46 and have about 20 guitars including 8 EBMM, but it's taken a long long time to get here.

One thing I will say is that you will never have more satisfaction than you will get from building that first guitar, and then somewhere down the road getting your first dream guitar.

Special moments, not to be repeated.:D

The first 7 years of playing I could not even tell you what one name was on the headstock of any of my guitars. This was also during the 70's when budget guitars had action a half inch off the fretboard, turners that slipped, bad intonation and pick ups that sounded like soup cans. The only thing I cared about was learning how to play and really did not even know what a good guitar felt like playing. Today you can buy a $300 guitar that plays and sounds great that you can go gig with or record. I do not feel your post was out of jealousy at all, more like amazement. One day you will look back and think of when you were 16 and what you were playing while picking an EBMM out of your rack!

My first guitar was an old Silvertone acoustic...my first electric guitar was a Ventura bass......imitation SG Bass.....it was pitiful...it sounded like a tuba....I eventually got a Rickenbacker 4001 bass.....and my first " expensive guitar was bought ten yrs ago when I was 40 yrs...old....Now I am 50....and have many Balls and a PRS......However, most of the imitation guitars now play and sound great too.....!!!! Keep us informed on your project guitar!!!

Cool man. Don't get your hopes up. You'll get there. I started guitar at 13. I got my first music man at 24. And it took me
Saving for years and literally selling all my gear to get it for the first time. Was worth it
