Hey y'all,

Anyone here know what color John Deacon's Stingray was? It looks to be Vintage Sunburst, but it might be Tobacco Burst. I can't get a good enough picture of it to tell. Anyone? :D

I believe (don't quote me) that he got that bass around 1977, and I'm not entirely sure there was more than one sunburst finish available then.

Experts?

John Deacon, Louis Johnson and Tom Hamilton are the guys that made me fall in love with the sound of the Stingray. They all used the late '76 Sunburst basses with white pickguard and radio knobs. A classic combination. I had one that I used from 1998 to 2000 when I foolishly sold it to finance an Al*mb*c Series 1. That picture of Deacon looks like the same bass. I first saw photo's of him with the bass on their Jazz LP.

Here I am circa 1998.

Finally dug up some info on John Deacon's StingRay and other basses.

Funny how the brain works: Most of the time he uses a natural P, so I remembered that colour -- but I also remembered that he used a 'Ray on "Another One Bites the Dust", so my brain merged that info into a virtual memory...
