Rats...so very close.

From what I've read on other forums, he's apparently been there on the PRS page for some time, as well as the Duesenberg page too. So probably nothing too serious or anything new as such! But who really knows how all this will pan out, or if anything much changes at all.

Given the history with the 25th Anniversary guitar, his old Axis Sport and the recent Instagram shots of the dual M Hole Reflex and NOS EVH, it wouldn't be a total surprise to see some more MM use in the public eye soon. Really, I would hope to see EBMM getting some real exposure at such a level, as they deserve it! Musicman doesn't have the big brand name like some, but unlike those companies, they have the better product and ethos. It's nice to see a lot of smaller builders being used more and more by big name artists these days; amps and effects included. Definitely a healthy shift for both business and innovation.

As much as a JM EBMM specific signature model would be awesome for so many reasons, like others have said, I don't think a whole lot will change. I think it just means now that he will continue to use Strats, as well any other guitar he wants to at any given time (the same as he always has) - the only difference being that his sig Fender will no longer be made.

I was told by my wife under no terms would I be allowed to bring a JM signature EBMM into the house - and I asked if the garage was still considered the house - so I'd be out if there was an EBMM JM Sig to show up.

Nevertheless I think the other companies are just saying that he's been using their guitars... He's an artist who needs more tools than one company can provide and where there is a tool available or someone willing to make that tool you're going to use more and more of that companies tools.

Being related to guitars - I see it this way - JM is continually evolving and needs new guitars and tonal options not available from explicitly say... FENDER... so he's been using other companies such as PRS, Dusenberg, MusicMan, etc to fulfill his needs - this just frees him up (I presume legally) to play these other guitars at will and enter into other agreements for exclusivity or just be an incredible artist using another company...

it's a win win for JM and his fans

I like John Mayer.

ive always been a huge fan. honestly, he got me back into blues after seeing him on the crossroads festival dvd years ago.

they cant be happy about this. hes really the "relevant young guy" that kind of championed the "strat sound" to the mainstream for the last decade or so. sure, his licks are mostly a hendrix copy. but no more than srv was with freddie king or clapton was with robert johnson.

if he does end up with another endorsement deal. the level of exposure that brand is going to get is going to be worth 10 times what is spent going into it.

you should make some calls if you can poppa. hes one of the few that would be worth every penny. hell, even worth tightening the belt a little bit.

Not really a big fan of Mayer but he easily sold more guitars for Fender in the last decade than any other endorser, especially the 30 and under crowd. As I posted two weeks ao I have not played or been on the forums in over a year so I have been doing a lot of catching up with old friends. I had no idea that Mike Eldred had parted with Fender (head of their CS) as well as killer guitarist and person.I heard Mayer was jamming with Mikes trio and personally feel that Mikes leaving may have played a bigger role in Mayer parting with Fender then anything monetarily. Keeping it real Mayers 200 guitar Youtube video is about 5 years old now and when you have a 20 million dollar Rolex collection I think his guitar royalties as an endorsee was not that big apart of his income lol. If anything Fender would seem to be the big loser here! Look at Bonamassa who Fender totally dissed when he was still a teen and his #1 was the Gold Strat that appeared on the cover of his instructional VHS tape. They asked to look it over and it was supposed to be his sig and then they did a run which had different size flakes under a different name. Bonamassa went in there pissed and was told endorsements were only for their A list players. Well we know Gibson scooped him up and the rest is history, but he refused to play a Fender up until about a year or two ago.He also played a lot of killer EBMM customs that they built for him and the way I saw it was probably EB's biggest endorser who wasn't an actual endorsee under contract for that period, as he would play 3-5 models during a single show. No doubt in my mind that Mayer is probably on every companies mind to land even being on the level where he pretty much plays whatever guitar he feels suits a certain song the best, as I have seen him playing pretty much everything from EBMM to Gibson to 80's shred guitars. I will say that whoever lands him as an endorsee will see a huge rise in sales and it would be great to see him land here. Mayer loves to Tweet and talk and I am sure the exact reason why he left Fender will be known in two weeks time.

I don't care if he gets a signature or not, I would just like to see him help EBMM get some exposure to things like that double M-hole Reflex he was sporting. Enough demand (outside of us here on the forum) may allow BP to squeeze a few goodies into the business model.

straycat welcome back and once again you state many things as fact that I sort of see differently....

The real story with sig artists is that JP is the number two sig artist in the guitar business and it is by a ton.... Les Paul is number one. John Petrucci is the number one living branded artist in terms of combined revenue for Guitar Center. I have sales numbers and they dont lie.

There is a halo effect that high profile players bring and that's cool

You mention Bonamassa like he left or doesnt play our stuff...Im making Joe three different guitars as we speak. Joe is a very very close friend of both the company and me personally.

He eats sleeps and breathes guitars...He is on the road for about 300 days a year and on the last break took the time to drive to san luis obispo to bring some of his new vintage prizes and have lunch and talk guitars.

We are also very good friends with John Mayer. I have cooked for him, talked guitars and played a little tiny bit.

One thing is we never approach these guys with deals....I never put the arm on friends....They know where we are and what we do.

I like John Mayer.
