John Myung Sig Bass

Wow ! Just wow !
The fretboard is insane!!! The simplified controls look interesting I’d love to hear more about that

I guess he doesn't use the EQ at all? The 5 position balance switch is nice though. I wonder though, one of the issues you find with most blend controls is that the middle position is 50% + 50%, instead of 100% + 100%. But it's how he wants it. so I'm sure it's great.

I didn’t know that or never really thought about centre dent being
50+50=100. Makes sense though.

I’m sure the bass works perfectly for John Myung and it looks great from what I’ve seen. I’d want to see one up close before I pulled the trigger on one though.
Still very impressive looking

Ordered and hopefully shipping soon!!!! Booyah!

I had a walk through of all of the Dream Theater stage gear during one of their concert tours.

His bass tech explained the lack of tone control as this.

John has a tone that he uses. Its set in stone on all of his basses so that there is never an accident change

If any tone needs to be modified, that's what an eq on his set up is for, not his bass.

This makes sense to me. There is enough fatigue from just playing his set day in and day out. I would imagine that having added tone "decision fatigue" each song would be an issue.

The music they play is pretty finite in terms of live performance. If tone is set during sound checks. Then the band will always know how he and each other sound and its the same every night.

Brash

PS I'm about to piss myself with excitement for this bass!!!!!!!

This is why some still prefer the blade switch, or the two volumes, so you are guaranteed full volume if you want it. There's really something a bit more "ballsy" about both pickups running full out.

I'm very interested and can't wait to hear some more sound samples of the various blending options.

Find it interesting that MM has 3 Artist series basses and NONE have a tone control.

Agreed. My newest Bongo is also my first HH with pickup blend feature. Not had chance to get it in the practice room and open it up yet (or even get it through an amp at home with a half decent volume) so looking forward to it.
My only other bass witha PU blend (J Deluxe) stays at centre dent permanently it’s either too weak sounding one way or boomy the other.

Any suggested setting to try out would be appreciated

(Not sure about my HH StingRay how the power is distributed on that. I tend to use either rear single or outer coils are my favourite)
