Hello

I just uploaded a video of John Petrucci where he shows his amps and his guitars. This video was shot in October in Paris during the soundcheck.

Here is the link :

Oh, the commentaries are in French ... ;) but JP speaks English !

Now I wonder if he always had his Cabs like that. That will open up a whole new can of worms over on the Petrucci forums. They really love to criticize gear. That's interesting, though. How he has 2 monitors so he can actually feel the stage rumble. If you shut off the PA- it must be super quiet.

Right. It's not a 1 x 12 combo back there. It's still two 4 x 12 cabinets back there.
What's the reason, do you know ? Perhaps, there are several microphones (for instance one near the center of one speaker, another a bit on the border of another speaker). If there is just one microphone, a 1x12 or a 4x12 are equivalent if the cabinets are isolated (in the case where the cabinets are not isolated, what you hear is the mix of the PA and of the cabinets. That why we prefer to have a 4x12, we have more oommph from the cabs !).

The technical details are in fact not important : the most amazing thing in this video is John. He is completely cool & relax. He takes time during soundcheck to show his gear and to explain a lot of things (he will play in a few hours in front of 8000 screaming Frenchmen !)... What a gentleman ! Amazing !
