Hi,

Which strings does Petrucci actually uses ? (on his standard tuned guitar, not the detuned).
Does he use 9's or 10's (on the high e) ???

Oh and on a side note, today I restrung my Music Man JP6 for the first time... Took me about an hour to get the bridge leveled again  ... The guy at the store who sold the guitar to me, said it was stringed with 9's ... I don't think this was right ... After restringing and tuning to pitch, the bridge went down all the way .. Anyway, I got it alright after all :)

I believe that at the moment John is using 9's live, to avoid fatigue.

I think he used to use Hybrids, but I'm not sure if he does any more. I like the hybrids, best of both worlds.

Well, I don't know what reason he has for choosing 10s, but the stock strings on the JP models have been RPS 10s.

I prefer 11's on mine in standard. 11-60 on the 7string. I can't shred like petrucci, so I go with the most tone in one note :). move to 12's when drop tuned.

Can anyone tell me what strings the JP6 ships (ie exact gauge, and make).

I don't want to change anything at all about the way my JP is set up. It is perfect right now :p

Are you taking off all of the strings off before putting in the new ones? That might be why it took you a little while to level the bridge. Anyway, EBMM:

Q: How should I change the strings on my guitar?

A: The best way to restring your guitar is one at a time to keep tension on the neck. It is not recommended to take all of the strings off at once. If you need to remove them for cleaning or to do some repair work, you will probably need to readjust the neck and re-intonate the guitar.

So are the BFR's shipping with 9's or 10's??????????

Yeah...not to be 'that' whiny customer, but I'd be curious to know whether the factory setup is going to change as well. I'm a 9 user, and it would be really cool to get my LE this summer and not have to immediately re-set it up with 9's! :D

Yea I take off all the strings before putting in the new ones. But the bridge comes right back into place when you use the same gauge-strings. So the first time I must have used different strings than the ones that were on it.

I've been told by someone on these forums that you can take off all the strings as long as you put new ones on it right after that (so not leaving it unstrung), that way it shouldn't harm the neck..
Is that right ??
When I restring my guitar I just like to remove the dust/filt from the fretboard, and that's a little difficult when not removing all the strings.

Tip for ya. These days, when you get a new Boss pedal, in some models you get a couple of rubber blocks to attatch to the underside of the pedal to stop it slipping around when you use it. They come in really handy for blocking the trem when you restring.
