jessica alba is actually a blond these days so go figure, anyway I didnt want to post this thread but heck, everyone else has so what I feel is that guitars are like actual music in the case that they are subjective to the listener or the player, and a specific guitar might grow on you as well like a song. I use silos and axis's and I love them both but sometimes I love to jam on my paul, its not better its different, so now I have spoken, have a great 4th everyone!

Oh I hear ya on that, I go through phases where I'll play my old Kramer beater and really be digging it, then I feel guilty about not playing my Axis. I love them both, but they couldn't be any more different really, completely different feel to each one. I would hate to have to ever choose.

Someday, I'll have a Signature EBMM model that combines what I love about both into one.

I think all of y'all need to lighten up a bit. Sure, this is the EB/MM forum and you guys are a rabid bunch of fans, but there are other opinions out there, and I think that hearing other opinions is good! I have also lifted the ban, so please just listen to other people. You may not agree, but please show some respect.

If any of you have a problem with this, my email is available to you.

In true open fashion I must tell you my thoughts on this thread. I didn't read it before because I can think of nothing more of a timewaster than so and so is better than so and so. The last argument that i fought hard for was when I was five picking superman over batman. If you ask me who the best all around guitar player I would say Steve Morse. Ask me my favorite and it is Albert Lee. Albert Loves steves playing and Steve obviously loves Albert (General Lee is a tribute to AL.) Luke has the worst rep as a sterile processed player....bs he is one of the most emotional and expressive players on the planet. Ask John Petrucci, Dave Larue and Steve Morse, they will tell you the same. JP and Luke if they ever get time would love to do a duet album. They jammed for hours on end at the Big Poppa bar at last years NAMM show. JP on 6string bass luke on six string bass luke even subbing for Chad Wackerman on drums.( I played bass until the inferiorty complex set in!) Vai and all of these guys love each others playing and are true friends. Steve Vai uses Ibanez. SteveVai is one of the purest humans on the earth and a dear friend of my family and a huge supporter of CLB. Steve has also guested unannounced at a few Biff Bay's gigs.

Whats my point? Each player does something different and affects listeners diffferently. Ive seen Steve play alberts guitar Jp try to play lukes and albert play Steves, They respect the other guys axe but prefer theirs. If you like an Ibanez better, Great! Go play inspired music and be happy that Ibanez made that special guitar for you.

At their level it is never competition, When they play amongst peers they bring the A game out of respect for the others. I have been very fortunate to be on the same stage with all of them and it is a master class in class and humility. I have also been on the stage with insecure talent that is trying to prove that he is better.UUGHH It happened at a clinic I did with ALbert Lee at GIT. We had one of the instructors that fancied himself as a gunslinger and wanted to prove how much better he was than Albert at Alberts game to his students. He played all over the top of everyone constant fills and way too loud and his solo went on for ever It was pathetic. He was the turd in the punch bowl. If you cant do it teach it.

All of the instrument companies make tools for these artists. Some take it more seriously than others. Ibanez is a fine company. I have tremendous respoect for what they do and I think that they have a fair amount of respect for what we do. Case closed.

Now to the ugly posts and the ugly responses. Axissport4me you got carried away and apologized. Jimid and Darrell I will speak with you privately on my thoughts, but patience is a virtue and a jackhammer is not necessary to turn a post around. The most powerful and effective people motivate not intimidate.

Thats all for now............Collings or Martin?......JUST KIDDING!

Hi Big Poppa,

they are just different !!!!!

Someone prefers Buick, others Chevys, that's the point.

I always played Ibanez and Fenders since 1992, (I got a short career, I know ;) )

and I'm a big fan of two Steve too. Not too much into Petrucci music, but like it too.

Just think that now I'm ready to try one of your guitars, and taste a different instrument feeling and craftmanship.

The same way I'm certainly that I prefer Seymour p/us over Dimarzio, but if a guitar is made with that kind of p/u's, seems that's this is the recomended p/u's to that relative sound. But I like dimarzios too.

Just travelling without moving at the studio with nothing to do now !

Variety is the spice of life... I'm sure here on the EB forum we'd all like to hear kudos to Ernie Ball all day long, but wouldn't that be a little boring? It's great to hear all of these opinions and I'm so glad that you are all comfortable to do so. :)

Big Poppa -

Thanks for your input and presenting sentiments that reflect what the majority of us on this forum likely feel. Believe me, I own guitars from 5 different brands (2 EBs) and I appreciate what all of them do. They are all specific tools for different jobs.

As to the thread, I think it started to straighten itself out there near the end. A testament to the members and their ability to discuss thoroughly and be open minded and apologetic. That is very rare among forums and you should be proud of the quality of the one that bears your name.

As for Jimid and Darrell, please go easy on them. I believe that each of them acted in a fashion they thought was necessary in order to protect the sanctity of the forum that does bear your name. In other words, I think they each did what they thought was best to protect your interests. So please, keep that in mind when discussing the issue with them privately. We need good people moderating the forum to assist in maintaining it's integrity.

And lastly, thank you very much for the Axis! It is my favorite guitar ever, and I hope to add to that part of my collection in the future.

p.s. Any chance of luring Steve Vai over to EBMM? ;)

Seriously though, thank you very much for your time in even addressing the forum at all, and for building some fantastic musical instruments.

Sincerely.

Odd how all those players are for the most part my favorites. lol. Add Brian May and we may be done. lol. Well, Al Pitreilli needs to put down those Les thingys and get a real guitar... J/K. lol. Al Rocks and so does his playing.

Now for where it really counts... Martin all the way BABY. LOL

P.S. More thoughts ont he guitar thing...

I love guitars. I open a catalog and I want the Gibsons, the Fenders, the Music Mans, The Ibanez, the Jacksons, The Gretsche(how do you spell that anyway? LOL). I want one of each. LOL. The JPM model when it first came out as an Ibanez filled a couple of serious needs I had for a long time. Knob placement and switch placement. I really only use the bridge, neck, and 4th postion on most five way switches but that 4 position is hard to switch to really fast when quickly changing to that clean sound or whatever. Plus JP put that rounder neck on the thing and ridded me of my biggest gripe about my Ibanez S... wide flat neck. My hands don't work that way. LOL. My Ibanez JPM is to this day something that people best not mess with. lol. I still want to get some MM JPM's because of the piezo and forearm carve and ... man those MM necks... Gosh they rock... anyway.... But, really the piezo is the only thing that makes it a need to have guitar. If I was never able to save up for another guitar, while I'd want one bad and do think they are better built over all, my Ibanez is a wonderful guitar and it sure likes to say nice things to me. :)

I truly hope Ibanez's internal turmoils get worked out because Ibanez is too much a part of my roots for something to happen to them. Besides, those kinds of problems aren't wished on our enemies, much less people that build us really cool stuff. :) Maybe there is a bright side to it too... maybe it will reopen the door for the US shops to begin production again and all those different neck carves will be options again. Out of every adversery there is oportunity. Hoshino has been around a while (and I think Tama can always more than pick up the slack to keep Ibanez going for a year or two) and they are pretty smart people.

I just wish Ibanez would have let John have the Picasso graphic. ;) Maybe someday.

Aren't you supposed to be on vacation or something?

I am, and it's like a freaking STEAM BATH here. I had forgotten how it works. Yow.

Batman, Superman, who knows, but I've always kind of thought Underdog would kick their asses if it came right down to it.

I don't know, boys, I try to not loiter over in the guitar forum much...bassists, certain bassists, anyway, want to turn music into some kind of competition - right? Jaco versus whoever else we supposedly idolize, blah blah blah. Me, I want in on the "Mustang Sally" extended jam, but that's another story.

Players move me or they don't. Some of the unlikeliest guitarists have brought tears to my eyes. Todd Rundgren, anyone? Every now and then, I hear something he's done and it makes me want to hug him. Who knew?

One of the things I love about Todd R is that he is so uninterested in the gear whore aspect. I saw him playing a green Fernandez Strat copy and he apparently loved it. He's also known to love Mustangs and other low-brow POS guitars.

Anyway, I'm no guitar player, so you may feel free to dismiss my opinion. But I often think that it aint' the tool, it's the carpinter.

I like my basses. Not all of them are EBMM (ask Big Poppa, he'll certainly be glad to tell you) but those are my favorites. Hey, every now and then, I stretch out and play something else! So what? It ain't the bass that makes the gig, it's me. I can either bring it or I can't. I try not to blame the instrument when it's me that isn't quite on the money.

I'm on vacation and drinking some vodka and the pool is about twelve feet away, but I did want to say to you guys - calm down, eh?

Love from the bass side,
Jack

woah jack on the 6 string side ... right on.

interesting thread. everyone's overed every base at this point but i guess ill toss in my 2 cents - they go a little something like this:

we all like guitars ... woo hoo. but there's a lot of guitars out there, lots of bad ones and lots of good ones. play what u like ... and as it turns out many of us like many guitars. its like mac vs windows vs linux ... there's no way in hell for one of those arguments to change someone's mind.

oh ya ... and everyone smile cuz open house is soon and its gonna kik ass
