JP Neck

Hey guys,

Just recently played a JP6 BFR, and it was probably the best neck I have ever felt.


It has been a while since I have played the first JP6. Do the standard JP6 and BFR have the same neck size/radius (whatever the measurements are for the neck. )

They should be exactly the same. The only difference should be that one's painted and the other isn't.

The BFR JP had a rosewood neck (not just the fingerboard, the whole neck) with a rosewood or ebony fingerboard depending on the wood used for the top, whereas the 'regular' JP has a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard.

Neck Width:
1-11/16" (43.0 mm) at nut, 2-1/4" (57.2 mm) at last fret
Neck Wood: Select maple neck
Fingerboard: Rosewood


BFR JP6 specs

Neck Width:
1-11/16" (43.0 mm) at nut, 2-1/4" (57.2 mm) at last fret

Neck Wood:
Maple top - Mahogany;
Koa Top - Tobacco Bursted Mahogany

Fingerboard:
Maple top - Rosewood;
Koa top - Ebony

Standard JP is maple neck, rosewood board - oil and wax finish.
BFR JP is mahogany neck, rosewood board - painted/high gloss polyester
BFR Koa JP is mahogany neck, ebony board - painted/high gloss polyester

While you were previously able to order a solid rosewood neck (available for a one month window only), it was just that... solid rosewood, oil and wax finished. You could not get it with an ebony board.

Call me crazy, but I find the standard JP neck a bit more comfy. I like the natural finish, and even though it's oiled down, it just seems a bit more like 'home' ? Lol, I don't know.

Right, they SHOULD be. But, I found the BFR neck to be slightly thicker than the standard JP's. I guess it's mostly the finish that accounts for this difference...

I have only played one JP6 BFR it was great, but owned a couple of the standard JP6's and i love that neck it is very comfortable.
