The pickup mounting system on this guitar prohibits the guitar from maximum gain/output. I find the guitar lacking when playing with high gain settings. My les paul(s) kill it. I like everything else about the guitar but cannot live with this. i have tried other JP's and they all do the same thing. Comments appreciated

The pickups were designed and mounted based on what John wanted to hear. Tone remains a subjective issue. We appreciate your input.

Thanks,
Greg

What can be done about this stress crack issue? I am the second owner of this guitar and joined the forum primarily to research this issue. thanks

The neck pickup on my standard JP seems to have a higher and a beefier output than the bridge pickup, is this normal for this model?

Hard to say without hearing it. If you feel it's a problem, contact repairs @ 800-543-2255 ext. 209.

Thanks,
Greg

Would replacing the mounting screws with longer ones help?

I've heard that by loosening the pickup screws(being careful of wiring) and placing a couple of nylon washers around the screws will raise the pup, thus producing more output.
Just be careful of the wiring and make sure the washers are nylon.
