okay Drgonz
here it is ! to be honest the Luke is a Much classier guitar the feel of the wood through the body and the luke neck is just personally the best But im finding it a little difficult bonding with the jp neck, its just so thin But it sounds great
this is only my opinion of having the jp for 2 days and playing Lukes for 10 years so it could change.
But to be honest I still think the Luke is the most well rounded guitar ebmm have produced..
cheers
p.s i love the neck pickup sound on the jp better than the Luke:)

Much appreciated Dean.

Cheers :)

I'm an older style bridge pickup fan too. The D-Sonic is too over the top and makes the bridge and neck positions too contrasting. It also makes the split position too bright and harsh.

Personally, I'm happy with the stock pickup heights...

There is no problem getting the old bridge pu - just buy a DiMarzio Steve's Special. :) Honestly, I've put it in my 20-th silo, and it's the sound - exactly the tone of the old bridge PU on the pet. I mean, it's exactly the same save for the poles, I believe.

How does the Steve's Special sound in the 20th Silo versus the stock hot PAF? Does it make the 20th sound like a Petrucci?

In one word - Yes, it does!

I have a combo of a Humbucker from Hell/ Steve's Special with a coil split tone-pot installed in my trem Silo 20-th. The sound is quite interesting, actually - it does sound like Petrucci, but still with the clarity and three-dimensionality of the 20-th. Compared to my JP7 (old PUs) it has much more high end, clarity (I did mention clarity, right :)?) and deffinition.

Compared to the stock bridge PU the Steve's special it' s much darker, bassier and louder, and it is (obviously) more of a high gain PU now, more of a "modern" type of sound.

So, all in all, I dig the mod, especially since I also have the 20-th hardtail. I wouldn't do that if I had only one 20-th, though.

I have a Breed in the bridge of my 20th with a coilsplit and stock neck pup. sounds really good. But I love the sound of the Petrucci with the original pickup and thought that might sound really good with the wood in the 20th. I think I might try it.

Oh, well, if You'd alredy started to experiment with the PUs and like Petrucci's tone, than the SS is surely the way to go!
