I believe the neck pickup is still a custom version of diMarzio's Air Norton pickup.

I'm not quite as sure about the old bridge pickup, but I think it was a custom version of the DiMarzio Tone Zone. Someone here will know much better than me.

Customized Steve's Special in the bridge...steve, you of all people should remember that one ;)

Haha.. figures! well, don't think I'll be forgetting that anytime soon! :D

Prog, I don't know what could be different between the versions except for the number of windings. I think the JP one is voiced to bring out more midrange. But I'm wrong a lot.

in fact yes. Custom JP's SS has a bit more midrange to it and is not as much scooped as the Stock one. But I heard that the differences are minor

D sonic has definitely more midrange and you might have the impression that it has more BALLS and chunk than Steve Special. I think Steve Special works the best with the midrang'y amps rather than scooped ones like Rectifier

Car ANYONE confirm the differences?

I had a regular SS on one of my guitars with a basswood body and was comparing it to my JP..... Still....it's hard to compare with the beast that the JP guitar is. I found it to be slightly more mid...very slightly but enough to be noticeable. I also found it to have a touch more drive to it. However, that could be the composition of the guitar causing that.

I don't like the D-Sonic as much in my JP7. I find it a bit more harsh. Again though, everyone's ears are different.

:)

I think the only difference in the JP neck pickup and the Air Norton is that the JP neck pickup only has the air gap between one coil.
