They must be rusty as all hell!! :p

LOL. I've played .010s forever it seems now. I had .009s on one holdout guitar (had a floyd) and I was to lazy to go thru the motions of bumping it up till fairly recently.

I tried .095s on a wolfie I had for a while. 10s felt too stiff and 9s too loose. I thought they felt just right on that guitar.

BP,

Don't forget to make the changes on the new beta website (before it goes live) too... I was just checking out the BFR JP6 page and it lists the 9-42 string setup.

Thanks for keeping us informed!

(I'm sticking with 9s... I'm not as beefcake as JP is and I just like the feel of 9s on my JP6. Of course, if you'd like to send me a set of 10s, conveniently mounted on a Rubyburst Quilt BFR JP6, I'd be happy to evaluate them. :D)

Yeah man! The hybrids are where it's at!! I wasn't sure what to think at first, but now I absolutely LOVE them! I'll try out the 10s on the BFR I am getting soon and see how I like them. It's been a while since I've played them on a JP since switching to hybrids...

Usually, I'm a guy who likes to leave well enough alone.

This time, I might switch exclusively to 9s. I like the 9s on my BFR. So, I kept them. Same thing with my 20th Ann. Silo. I never switched from 10s on my regular JP6 just because it came that way. So, I've had one guitar with 10s. The rest have 9s. Or who knows? I might switch them all to 10s for tonal reasons. I like the idea of only buying one gauge of string. I had been buying two different ones. We'll see.

All my guitars, save for the Morse and the BFR have 10's. I like the sound of them better and I think they give my a little more control with alternate picking. When I finally get around to it, I'm gonna set up the Morse and the BFR for the 10's

Some things will never change....erh...hmmm..... let me refraise that... Somehings will always change

1. Night and day, Winter to spring, Summer to fall.
2. John Petrucci's string gauge preferences

I'm using 9 myself on all my guitars. I pretty sure John will have changed back before I can decide what BFR color I want on my next six string:p

Brian May has always used 8s. :)

Really, there is no real mystery to this change. I go through phases to. Sometimes I'll like 10s and sometimes I'll like 9s.. sometimes I want my strap short, sometimes I want it long. JP has had a tendency to go through certain phases for quite a while now. We just know more about it now that his signature models are shipped with precisely what he uses.

I'm not changing to 10s tomorrow just because he has... however, I do remember very clearly that the 10s on my JP7 felt like 9s on most guitars, and I have noticed that different guitars tend to want different gauges. I use whatever is most comfortable on whichever guitar I'm using.

If I went totally off what my fave players are using, I'd have to battle as to where I'd use 8s and where I'd use whatever JP is using at any given moment. lol
