I have not yet seen a JP12 in stores. I have a question. I own a std JP6 BFR with a rosewood board and nickel frest, In fact it's an early one with the D Sonic and Petrucci neck pickup. Is it a safe assumtion that a JP12 with the ebony board and SS frets is a brighter sounding guitar?

The attack will be a little snappier. As for brighter I wouldn't say so. The JP12 being basswood is a bit warmer in my opinion than the alder bodied BFR's. The JPXI would be a bit brighter sounding.

yellowv03 seeing as how you own every JP model which one's tone do you prefer the most?

Having just gotten the 12 yesterday I can't make a decision yet. I love them all and they all bring something a little bit different to the table, but honestly they are all very similar in tone and each one really is versatile enough to do pretty much anything I want. The JPXI was my favorite, but the JP12 may inch it out. So I will just say the XI is my favorite 6 and the 12 is my favorite 7 :)

Based on my observations, the JP12 is brighter than my JP BFR with CL/LF pups. I have not a/b'd it with my BFR with DSonic yet. Sounds more similar to a standard JP
