Long story short I got so impatient waiting for my jp15 I laid a jp13 away. After the dealer did a setup and I had paid more than half down my 15 shipped out 2 days later. So I just picked the 13 up today brand new and I'm wondering since I usually like to have all my guitars be different from one another. Since both are very similar other than aesthetics should I sell or trade the 13? If so what should I ask for it? Do I keep it (it is really nice) but I can't think of an instance where I would pick it up over the 15. Any opinions?

Can't think of an instance? What matches your stage outfit better on that gig?! :)

I have a philosophical problem selling a guitar... If you don't need the money for something else, that JP13 really isn't going to eat much while it's sitting there you know!

Lol true kevin. But I was thinking I would like a majesty or an axis. Also orange is my fav. Color and I really like all those tangerine pearl guitars.

Different tone woods on the 2 guitars... I would do a side by side before selling. If it were me selling the Jp13 I would go with an Axis over the Majesty. Reason being is that the Majesty is still in the JP line of guitars and if the difference in tone wood isn't enough to justify the JP13 you are prob in the same boat with the Majesty where the Axis is a whole different animal.

Good points all stratty. I did trade in my San Dimas so I'm without a Floyd rose guitar at the moment the axis with a Floyd is a good option

Well you can always buy the JP16 soon enough if you want the Floyd :)

Selling a guitar is a very difficult decision to make for me. I also own a JP6 and a 15. Have to sell the JP6, due to monetary reasons, but it's so difficult to event think of it. Plus where I come from, there is no shop where I can just go in and buy another one if I missed it!

So, even though I seldom play my JP6 over the 15, it's still a piece of me!

The 13 and the 15 feel and sound nearly identical. I don't believe in tonewood, so maybe that's why I don't hear a difference.

But I was in a similar position, to sell or not to sell the 13 since I have a 15. I ended up putting the 13 up for sale (it's still up), but I'll be making the final payment in my student loans tomorrow (or Thursday, forget which) and therefore the final payment in any/all debt, so without the need for extra cash, I'm probably gonna take all my for-sale guitars down.

Besides, as Kestrou says, it's not gonna cost me anything to keep it.

But between the two, I would keep the 15. I'm just in love with the oiled/waxed roasted maple neck and fretboard!

Agreed the 15 is a wondrous machine. The only reason I think of selling the 13 is because it's still new the bar is still in the envolope frome the factory so it's value is at its peak. Once I make it a truly used guitar I would not likely sell it. I have several other axes my bc riches all have sentimental value and I played them back in my 80s heyday. My last remaining les Paul is my only D tuned guitar although I could convert the 13. I guess I'll just wait till next year and get an axis or Luke keep them both.

You know, I never considered keeping the 13 for an altered tuning.

I've been interested in trying out that fabled "432 Hz" tuning. Supposedly it makes your soul transcend or something. Maybe I could keep the 13 with 9s and put 10s on the 15. There's a lot of advantages of (essentially) having two of the same guitar!

Well I just went and did the side by side. And honestly if all things are equal electronics etc... the two do sound different. The 13 seems a bit warmer than the 15 and the 15 seems to have a more direct articulate sound more precise as it were. The setup the dealer did is a bit off too low too much buzz but a few small tweaks will fix that so I guess the 13 is a keeper. Who would've thought that I would like 2 EBMM'S (insert sarcastic smirk) looks like I'm hooked on the balls.

Ooh yea, gotta get it paid off lol

The ONLY reason I was selling mine was to pay off my student loans quicker. I have a couple Carvins up for sale as well, which will probably come down tomorrow as well.

I bought my 15 on my Sweetwater card - but paid it off the next month. Never again will I be paying on something for months or years- except maybe a house.

I do plan on passing my 15 down to my yet-to-be-conceived kids though. What a work of art.

Yeah I bought mine on the card as well hard to resist interest free financing. I'll have it paid off in 5or6 months but the wife will get unhappy if another expensive guitar shows up.

I don't believe in tonewood, so maybe that's why I don't hear a difference.

I keep reading this over and over and I'm just confused. What do you mean you don't believe in it? There is an objective aspect to different types of woods having differing tonalities. To not hear it is one thing, to not believe in it is quite another that starts to venture into anti-science type talk.

Keep them all two! You have the advantage, on a stage, of having two identical guitars in shape but with a different sound!
I would have also a 15 for my next gig: i will use the 13 for the most part of the concert, of course, but i will be forced to switch to an Rg tuned differently for two songs....And i don't want! :D
