Hey friends,

I am desperately trying to get a JP15. I've determined that based on the specs I want, this is the guitar that fits the bill the most.

However, I have tried 3 JP15s now:
1. Came with a severe bridge misalignment and a lower piezo volume on high E (lower volume than other strings)
2. Had really horrible tuning stability (without using the bar). You would tune it, and random strings would go out of tune after a bit of play. Retune, the same would happen. This was all after stretching the strings constantly for a few days and if it helps, this is not the same behavior I see in plenty other guitars. Vendor assured a setup was done prior to shipping it.
3. The tone knob did not work, as in, the tone wouldn't be affected by using the tone knob on the magnetic pickups. It would work to split the coils, but nothing in terms of affecting the reducing/increasing the tone.

All of these things have a fix of course. A good setup, lubricating the nut (maybe), fixing whatever was affecting the tone knob, but this is crazy. 3 guitars at a ~$4K price point and all 3 needed something done in order to get them to be ready. I get that Music Man has excellent customer service and would've surely sorted it out. But I am just frustrated that I can't buy a guitar like this, at this price point, and simply not be ready to enjoy it from day 1. What I am now being forced to do in order to try and avoid any potential issues upon receiving the guitar is ensuring a setup is done prior to shipping and this is at least to be hopeful that the guitar will do what I need it do to, even before testing how much leeway I truly have when using the bar.

What gives? Obviously if I search for either JP15 or Majesty issues, I will get flooded with specific downsides or issues people have had. Am I just crazy unlucky on this? Does this guitar really have rock-solid tuning stability after everything is said and done?

Thanks for your time.

If you do a search for any product and "issues" you're likely to get a lot of hits, I don't think that's specific to the JP15, Majesty, or electric guitars in general. More people post with problems than post to say they have none. (With the notable exception of flippers ... "best guitar ever! it's for sale!".)

That said, it does sound like you're having a run of back luck. Just guessing, but the bridge alignment could be just the neck shifting in the neck pocket- many bolt-on guitars require a slight neck shift to get everything lined up. The tuning stability thing is odd, but it could be a bunch of different issues. And the tone knob, well sounds like a wire was disconnected from the tone pot, which sucks.

There are tons of happy campers with JP15s and Majesties. Personally, look/feel are the more important issues for me so if I found one I loved, I'd probably work with MM customer service to get it all fixed up and in shape. Anything new is under warranty, so you'll be able to get any issues taken care of. (That's why they're there.) I have had one or two guitars that needed TLC right from the store ... you never know how they've been abused before you got there ... when that's happened I've sent them back to MM to get sorted out and been happy.

Another option is to consider a used instrument that has been in use for a couple of years, hoping that any issues have already been resolved by the previous owners.

Tuning should be rock solid. It is on all my EBMM and Sterling guitars. Often gigging and checking tuning half way through the set and all is well.

I had piezo issues (low output) on 2 new guitars from EBMM but they took care of it. They seemed to have a bad batch of them back in covid times (mid 2020). (That’s just my theory, not saying it is a fact)
