Current owner of jp6, former owner of axis. Axis body was just too short for me and found jp6 much more comfortable. Only drawback is jp6 to my ears sounds darker and heavier. The axis just seemed to have more clarity and brightness. Hope this makes sense.

My jp6 is an 05 with stock pickups also have a set of liquifire/crunch labs that came with it(bought guitar used). Are the liquifire/crunch pickups closer to axis or diff.

Also what would get me into axis territory in the jp6 since wood wise they are similar

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

Thanks

DiMarzio - Tone Zone/Air Norton will get you the closest to the pups in an Axis. Also the Axis is a Basswood body with a Maple cap which is a slightly brighter tone combination than just Basswood. I can't recall anyone putting Axis pups in a JP but if they did they will reply.

If you do mod it for tone zone/air norton I would be very interested in the results.

I have an axis and a Jp6 as well. i found the JP6 sounded much darker as well compared to the axis naturally. Mind you, my jp has a mahogany neck/rosewood fretboard and adler body. I never cared for the cl/lf or the older dsonic set for the JP. I currently have a set of Bare Knuckle Pickups (rebel yell) which I really love. it has brightened up the guitar for me.

Thanks for heads up about rebel yells. I noticed them on website as well. The VHII's look interesting as well but think they might be too vintage for my tastes. Really love the sound of an axis but have a hard time with thin nut and short body on it.

Too bad they dont make a jp6 with maple top and maple fretboard would be a more equal comparison.

I emailed bare knuckle pickups thgis morning and they recommended a holy diver at bridge and an emerald at neck.

Anyone have any experience with those pickups or that combo. Those pickups are pricey but want to get it right the first time vs continuing to chase it. I love everything about my jp6 feels and plays wonderful. Awesome acousticqally just feels way to dark for me.

Anyone with any further experience

FWIW, DiMarzio used to say that the closest production pickups to the EVH/Axis were the Air Norton (neck) & Tone Zone (bridge), but at some point they've revised their FAQ to say Air Norton (Neck) & AT-1 (bridge).
