JP6 BFR Tuning issues

A buddy of mine who is one hell of a guitarist just bought a BFR. He says it's not staying in tune very well. Mine does but not like a Floyd Rose. I'm just wondering if there is some little tricks that maybe he could try. Maybe his strings just need to stretch out a little. He just got it so.

if youre comparing it to a floyd rose the floyd will always win.. theyre too good with tuning. how bad is the problem really? are you sure your standards arent too high having played floyd roses before?

When designing the trem for the JP6, John Petrucci requested that it stay in tune like a Floyd Rose. The design team at Music Man designed a great trem unit, I think this particular unit needs to be setup properly

Like others said make sure the tuners are actually locked in place. You can also just play with the whammy bar and pull it as far back as it'll let you then go all the way down back and forth for a while, that's what I always do whenever I get new strings.

I agree with walleye. Out of every guitar I own the only one that floats is my JP as I love the trem on it and with exception of a Floyd, nothing comes close to being able to handle heavy abuse. But the bottom line unless the nut is locked there is always a chance of slippage. But then again I am not a wiz with a trem and some guys can just get them to hold tune amazingly. I had posed a similar question pertaining to how Jeff Beck can play a show without a guitar change and was told by someone who knows as gospel that his guitar is out most of the time, and he just shapes the notes into tune with the bar when he plays which is mind boggling. But then I always remember a story printed years ago about Randy Rhoades seeing Vanhalen play for the first time and this is before Ed used a Floyd, and he asked him how he was able to keep his guitar in tune and Ed told him he coldnt tell him as it was a secret Beck showed him.The story ended saying that Randy was not quite fond of Ed.lol

Rhoades went on to find out his own way of staying in tune. I don't know if he just figured it out or someone told him, but I use his method on my non-locking guitars........................................................want to know how?
