I just bought this, site unseen, and was quite shocked to open her up and see this little hot mess. I don't even know what is happening quite yet, but I'll try to map this all out.

Would love comment or any help on what you guys and girls see here. I may just gut it all out and go back to a stock-like version.

:eek:Extra single coil! Pot inside cover connected to pickup! Transformer? Why would you need hum cancelling with humbuckers already in guitar? So confused so far.

You should document each connection as you take it out(schematic form even better) to figure out what that is..... My outside guess is that someone might have split the humbucker coils to single coils and this hidden single coil is a dummy for hum cancelation..... Just a guess though.

tekwerk...That is probably the best guess, to cancel some hum. But why the extra pot? I still need to trace the wires and try to write out a schem. Honestly, electronics is not my bag, but I know just enough to be dangerous. I'm more of a mechanical guy. I'll see what I can do to draw this out.

I fired it up last night as well. the upper horn toggle didn't appear to have any function (as of yet). Both pickups work, the peizo works and both output jacks function in some form or another. I also found some solder mods to the output/piezp board.

While playing around with it last night, the output cutout and I couldn't get it back. Might make my decision easier to gut and rewire.

I'll draw it out tonight.

I'm going to go with Maddi's guess. How have you been bro?
I'd like to think that there would be a normal humbucker mode using one of the switches, then a single coil 'mode', with a need for the hidden single for hum cancelling. The hidden pot might under the control cavity might be to adjust the output, perhaps a volume level like the little screws within the preamp section of the stock JP's.

Wow .. what a mess! Btw, when you start messing around with dummy coils, you realize how well implemented the Silent Circuit is. The dummy coil is buffered by a little op-amp, so you don't lose high-end the way you normally do with a dummy coil.

The transformer is odd ... I'm inclined to agree with Kev, it could be wired as an inductor. I've got a few of the Lawrence Q-Filters and they're really cool for that sort of thing.

Good luck getting 'er back to stock!

If the transformer is 1:1, and both sides are hooked up, they might have been using it to shift phasing 180 out.

This is of course assuming the polarity is reversed on one side.

Agreed! I'm happy that everything is internal. Playability is flawless. Well worth putting the time and money into.

Thanks for the info bhull. I wish I knew what you were talking about though....Kinda kidding, but while I know what phase shifting is soundwise and conceptually, I have no idea of the electronics and wiring behind it. I'll really have to map this out well and enlist the experts on this site. It's nice to have this resource.
