How close would the JP6 be to the Jackson Soloist, if anyone has had/played both? I always wanted a soloist growing up but now prefer EBMM to any other guitar company (plus Fe**** took over the company).

Also, is the Morse y2d neck more like my Axis?

I've owned/played both.. the soloist is compound radiused and is smaller at the nut/open positions and gets wider the higher you go..I believe its something like a 12" at the nut and eventually a 15" around 15th fret whereas the JP6 is a 15 all the way up and down. Both are obviously great guitars..I do prefer the finish on the EB necks slightly more..but the fit and finish on the Jackson was great. I owned an SL2 (2 humbuckered soloist) w/ a graphic and its was a wonderful instrument..I think it was just a tad smaller bodywise than my JP. "F" has kept a lot of the Jackson guys in place and a lot of or most of the build team intact and I notcied no real change..my SL2 had slightly beefier frets and that would really be the only thing I'd say I miss about it..they were closer to super jumbo..but IMO its a little thing..my JP6 is a complete performance tool and is more versatile.

Soloist vs. JP

I own both but for comparison purposes, my soloist is OLD.....(circa 1988)

1. The JP's neck is a bit flatter.
2. There is no sculpted heel on the Soloist.
3. The trem system on the Soloist is not the JP's.
4. The Soloist has the goofy micro switches for pickup selectors.

I can't comment on the newer revision of the Soloist but between the one I own and the JP, the JP is leaps and bounds above.

Well... the Morse Y2D neck is more like your Axis than a JP neck would be. Other than that, I can't comment much because I haven't got a lot of experience playing an Axis. Anyone more qualified want to address this part of glock's question?

I have both.

The Soloist is heavier overall, a bit neck heavy, and has those giant frets. The large frets mean I have to set the action higher to avoid fret noise. I also had to replace the pickups (and got rid of the Jacklson active electronics.) I also replaced the trem with a non-locking, and put locking tuners on.

The JP6 is lighter, has a better trem, sounds better and plays much better. No need to replace any parts. To compare playability, the soloist needs to be tuned half a step down to come even close to the playability of the JP6 at concert pitch.

I grab the JP6 first most of the time when playing something, and the Soloist hardly at all since I got the
JP6.
