JP6 prototype maybe?? what is this guitar?

so i have this dream theater dvd entitled Metropolis 200:scenes from new york

it was recorded in 2000 and i noticed petrucci is using his JP6, but it doesnt look quite the the same. i coulndt figure it out. it has his 2 dimarzio pickups in it, the peizo is their, but the bridge is like half silo half the bridge he uses now. the neck just had normally dot inlays and the headstock had the ernieball signature in a different place. i couldnt really tell what was goin on with the body, it look just like a normal silo body.

was this guitar a prototype of the JP6 that is out now, and was he using a different neck?

its a pretty cool dvd aswell, i suggest dream theater fans who dont own it should grab it!

All the guitars that he plays on that DVD are prototypes. That video was shot a good 10 months before JPs went into production.

If you look under the artists section of the Music Man site, you can see that the guitar JP is holding in his picture is not a standard JP. I think it is also a prototype. In fact, if you look closely you can see that someone is sitting next to him just out of the picture. Judging from the chair JP is sitting in and the lamp on the table next to him, it looks like the picture was taken at the Roseland in NY. If that's the case, it is probably Steve Morse that is sitting next to him.

Well, he only needed a 7-string (the PRB-looking one), a standard tuned one (Black Sparkle, I think), and the dropped D one for Home.

yeah they are different, but i deffitnly like the current jp6's

the dvd is awsome, same with the budokon dvd is freakin amazing

I saw them 3 times on that tour. Twice in April 2000. Was so early on that he only had the blue one that you see on SFAM DVD as his main axe. He used his Ibanez guitars for the 7 string stuff and drop D. When they returned in October it was all MM. If memory serves me right, I'm sure he even had a 7 string mystic dream by then, but I could be wrong. I jsut seem to remember thinking to myself during the gig "I'm sure that guitar keeps changing colour!"

That first gig in Manchester UK tho. Man that was sooooo exciting. We were all blown away with the album and I couldn't wait to see them perform it all live. PLus, i was dying to see his new MM guitar as I knew a bit about thew company by then, and had briefly looked into getting a Morse before that time. I was stunned by the guitar when I saw and heard it. It just looked so instantley classic and I knew there and then that I ahd to have one. They really were the Rolls Royce in my book back then. Still are to a degree. I kinda feel that way about the BFR F-1 now though.
