Dude just play the guitar!!!

+1. The second you start thinking, you're in trouble. The pickups are fine. When you can play like John, then you can think about changing the pickups ;)

From the Dimarzio website:

These pickups are only available as original equipment on John's MusicMan guitar. The 6-string neck model is very similar to the Air Norton™. The sound of the bridge pickup resembles the Steve's Special™, although it is not as close. The 7-string Air Norton™ is fairly close to the MusicMan neck pickup, and the Blaze™ bridge model is the closest-sounding available bridge pickup.

*It appears to me that your Steve's Special may not sound that much different than the stock pickup.

Throw some evos in there. You'll love it. It's exactly what you're looking for.

dude, that's EXACTLy what I'm doing...LOlL

went to guitar center yesterday..played a couple of ibanezes with dimarzios in them..a JS with a FRED and a JEM with an EVO

I liked the tonality of the fred, but it wasn't hot enough..great harmonics though...

the EVO had the harmonics AND the output I was looking for...both guitars had the pickups way to far away from the strings, but even so, the EVO still sounded plenty hot to me...I'm sure when I raise the poles it'll kikc ass..

and when I emailed dimarzio they told me to slap an EVO in there =-D

eventually I'll probably get an evo neck but I kinda like what's in the JP now...we'll see how they match up...

Just curious, did your George Lynch guitar come stock with the Duncan Screamin Demon? I had that pickup in an Ibanez RG560 back around '90. I remember lovin' that pickup, but its been like a decade since I sold that guitar.

John Petrucci is experimenting with a new neck pickup. I forget what he said it was at the Detroit clinic in August. I'm happy with the stock JP's
