I bought a John Petrucci 7 in red pearl burst from eBay and when i first got it, it was fantastic. It is one of the earlier models from when they first came out (circa 2001?). I can tell based on the fact that it does not have the shield inlays and is very similar to my buddy's jp6 of the same vintage. Anyway, when I first got it the piezo worked fine except for deep dive bombs when the low b would cut out. After I changed the strings and tuned it back up, the piezo only comes out at an extremely low volume. I have changed the battery, but I am thinking it is a problem with the transistor(?) Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it. I am considering sending it to SLO but that seems very expensive and I am pretty handy with guitar electronics and I believe I can change the broken piece myself. Anyone have any advise?

I'd call or email MM customer service. They can probably help you diagnose the problem. Then if you're handy, perhaps you can do the fix. But start by getting good advice from the guys that know the product.

As a matter of fact, I've sent a few. Their work is impeccable, and their bench rates are very reasonable. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I totally agree with beej on that one, if I had an issue related to what you are talking about who better to handle it than the guys who put it in. You know beej I did not even know that you could send the guitar to EB if you were not the original owner, I have to log that lol.

I had to fix my JP6 piezo and if you are handy with electronics you should have no problem. Take a look at my sinature and click on the link(s) to my JP6 renovation and you will find that you will first have to remove the piezo saddle. It may have a letter "R" embossed underneath the saddle or it may not, and CS will need to know this?
