So I know the JPX is apart of John Petrucci's 10 year aniversary with EBMM. does that mean that the JPX is only a limited run? Because I'm kind of hoping for more colors :p Don't get me wrong, purple is badass, I'm just hoping for more options somewhere down the line.

As long as JP still uses it, I don't think it's going anywhere. I'm pretty sure it'll continue to be made like the other models, with other colors possibly being released.

I think my next guitar after I get my JPX will be another JPX. The shape is superior to the original JP, and it comes with black hardware... what's not to love?

Hopefully they come out with new colors in a few years. I would kill for a Dargie JPX with black hardware.

I think that's a matter of opinion. After having played with my JPX for a couple of weeks, I'd change two things - I'd put the original arm scoop back, and go back to chrome hardware. The old scoop was more comfortable for me, and I'm afraid the black might wear off over time. I like the nice shiny chrome better. The black also tends to haze up if you get wax on it...

Other than that, this thing is amazing...

Your'e exactly right, Mike. Totally a matter of opinion.

I love the black hardware, and can do without the arm scoop :D

Well... of course it is.

Frankly the main reasons (concerning aesthetics) that brought me to choose the JPX over any other seven-string guitar is the black hardware, ebony fretboard, thin symmetrical body, and rich metallic finish.

Sure it would still be the same guitar with the scoop and the chrome hardware (and let's give it an unfinished neck while we're at it), and probably much more practical to boot... but that is like turning a jet-haired sex kitten into an average brown-haired girl. Sure, both are attractive in their own ways, but I know I like looking at and touching one a lot more than the other ;)

If you haven't yet played and seen a JPX in person, you gotta do it. I found the color to be far nicer in person and as I noted in another thread, it is wicked light!

Brown Dog.....nice job on the rendering of the Dargie JPX........and your avatar is getting scarrier everytime you change it up......

A DDIII JPX

Dargie_JPXcopy.jpg

I think the popularity and overall flawless reception of the JPX is a clear indicator that Music Man needs to do a few things:

#1: Adopt the new changes permanently (ebony, frets, body shape)
#2: Offer the BFR tone woods (no figured tops) at the JPX price point, and offer them without the piezo option to make them even more affordable.
#3: Make a DDIII JPX.

Please note, the opinions expressed here are motivated entirely by selfish desires and do not reflect clear market analysis or rational business practices.

I'm pretty confident that the JPX is here to stay and I can see more color options coming. Some of the pictures seem to give JPX a blue look, but let me tell you, when you see it in real life, it's very beautiful dreamy finish. It does change the color a bit depending on the lighting. It can be very sparkly blue-ish finish in the sunlight. Indoors it looks deep and rich purple. It looks black under a shadow.

Even though my amp and effects processor aren't very good, - and while I can't compare it to other JP's as I haven't played them with an amp - the guitar has great cleans, roaring distortion and it resonates really well. CrunchLab is one loud pickup! The black hardware and the ebony fretboard look perfect with the finish and the ebony is as smooth as silk. I really have to get a better amp to get the guitar singing though.

Also, one thing I should mention is that the neck is more round than on a standard JP (rounder than on BFR too?). On the standard that I tried it had much more flat neck. I was worrying that it might be too flat for me on the JPX as well. I was pleasantly surprised how round and still speedy it was. Fits like a glove for me.

There is a reason why my signature absolutely BEGS ebmm to come out with a new Dargie JPX... It would be the greatest achievement of mankind ever.

I had my NGD JPX yesterday...

I am a veteran of annual balls. I bought at least 1/year since 2005. 2006 RR jp6/2007 jp6 LE/2008jp6LE are the JP purchases. the JPX outshines them all. Amazing. Ordered in June. I actually got more leary as time grew that it wouldn't live up to the hype. It did. It rings like a piano unplugged. The new shape feels totally different and begs you to go after the upper registers. Very balanced. The bigger frets make it feel faster. The sounds are powerful. The purple color is more like a black with purple. The black hardware fits the look; as the ebony board. Piezo good as usual. Very hard to put down.
I will be ordering a second one when some new variations spring up. I wish I knew about how good these are when the roasted window was open.

These will displace the originals; I can feel it.

I HOPE a JPX DDIII wouldn't be released any time soon. I still have to get the Barolo.. EBMM will bankrupt me, lol xD These guitars are seriously the only ones that make me get GAS.

Yup it's the greatest guitar I've ever played. It's incredible in every way.
