Local music store had a few guitars walk out the doors a few times. Back around 89-90 someone walked in grabed a Les Paul and walked the 10 feet out the door. Then Just last year my friend who works there told me 2 Gibsons ( about $6000) somehow were taken (same store as first guitar) . I don't know how they are in the back of the store with cameras. I believe inside job. Some people where no longer working soon after.

Hey its not funny....Guitar Center lets people play our stuff....but more and more they are getting stolen This shrinkage is not isolated...Sherman oaks has all of our stuff on the top shelf now and it isnt selling in that position so it hurts us.

My local GC has one MM....it's a black Reflex in the exact configuration that I want. It is so far up on the wall and in a corner that noone even knows it's there. I've been in there 4 times in the last two weeks and just noticed it. I'm hoping it's there long enough for me to put some cash aside and snag it. Sterling is right...the guitars way up high get ignored.

6 or 7 years ago my local GC had zero music man guitars to play. It made me sad because a few years before that they had a handful.

Now, I'm excited to say that the same guitar center now has 15 balls on the guitar side alone. It allowed me to try a reflex and even an AL, a guitar I'd never thought I'd see within 200 miles of my home. It's fortunate too as the music man guitars span from the ceiling to the floor in a great selling position. The guitars that used to occupy that spot were fender. Now, fender is lucky to be on the wall. :D

I'm really confused... I thought musicman was and is one of the top guitar manufacturers. I'm suprised gc doesn't carry a lot of them. Is the market more geared toward $500 guitars(meaning you can move more of these and make more money in quantity.). About 15 years ago, I was first introduced to musicman and always thought the quality was equal if not better than competitors. I really think ebmm uses some of the best tops. I'm not really a fanboy either... I own many other guitars. Is it a niche market of players that buy musicman? Isn't it like the grocery store where the manufacture has to pay for the space?

I have a good friend in Santa Fe with a beautiful music store. He pretty much only carries really low end guitars/amps, simply because he moves that gear like crazy.

When I was in high school I went to Guitar Center with a friend and another guy who drove. I remember spending quite some time hunting down a cable to plug into a guitar and amp. When I finally got the guitar plugged in, I noticed the 'friend' who drove us was running out of the store. Since he was my ride, I quickly left the store as well - I thought he was trying to ditch me there. I practically jumped into the car as he was leaving. It wasn't until we were several blocks away that I found out he stole some pedal. I was so pissed.

Was it the Oxford Valley Guitar Center? If so that sucks, I was planning on going there soon, I was hoping they still had the JPXI...oh yeah and because stealing is wrong.
yes it was. It does suck, but they have plenty more to go around. It's not like it was the only one. I think they have replaced that one by now anyway. Go check them out if you can.

BP, and this store doesn't have the Balls on the Wall that high up, they are behind the guitar desk which is 99% somebody manning it. The PRS are at the very, very top. Where the JPXI was taken from is when they decided to change up the layout just a tad and moved some Mesa stuff away from that desk (which was more of a straight shot out the door). All of the EBMM's were on that wall, which was great for them to have extreme exposure, and Mesa's right under them! This store has double doors with a person manning the front at all times, never somebody not there. From what I was told, is that a car was waiting out front running, the person came in, found the JPXI ran out, opened one door, then the next and into the car.. That fast!
