Having joined the EBMM owners club earlier this year with my purchase of a wonderful Luke, a few weeks back I bought an amber hardtail Axis (thanks to fellow forumite spkirby - top bloke!).

I'd never played an Axis before and can't believe how great this guitar is, a fine complement to my Luke. Having played a couple of Fender Custom Shop Strats for a few years now the quality, build and sound of my pair of EBMM's is right up there, and considering these are regular 'production' guitars it's really quite staggering. I wish I'd tried these guitars years ago.

Before I got the Axis I assumed it would 'just' be a rock machine, but despite the limited controls I've found there to be a fantastic range of tones in there, rolling off the volume and using each of the pickup combinations brings out great cleans, breakup tones as well as full-on high gain stuff. And the neck seems to make it so easy to play.

Well I'm truly hooked now, and eyeing the rest of the range. Wondering what an ASS, Silo and Petrucci would be like... :D

Thanks for the warm welcome here guys. Looks like there may be some more EBMM's added to my collection in the not too distant future. Gulp!

Hi Steve - yep, really pleased with the Axis. Makes me wonder how good the Axis you still have is! :D

Is there much tone difference between the hardtail and one with a Floyd?

Hmmm....search the forum a bit. You'll find out very quickly what we think of custom shops here. Frankly, now knowing how EBMMs are made and the care that goes into them, personally I'd be hesitant to refer to any of them as 'regular production'. I prefer to think of each and every one as custom built!!:D

In all honesty I preferred the sound of the hardtail as it was brighter and more resonant than the floyded Axis...however I am a trem fan so when it came to funding the Luke the hardtail had to go...

Might regret that descision one day

Absolutely! That's why I put 'production' in quotes - the standard output from EBMM is easily on a par with what other manufacturers can only produce from their custom shops. :D

It shows amazing business integrity in this day and age, considering the obvious level of demand and the wait times for new orders to get built, for Big Poppa to keep the extremely high quality, care and attention to detail as the primary considerations in EBMM production, rather than sacrificing this just to shift more instruments out the door.

Not only are the instruments fantastic, but the customer-orientated culture that comes across clearly in what I've read on these boards is like a breath of fresh air.

I've always pretty much been a trem guy as well, but I have to say I've adapted to playing hard tails much better than I thought I would.

I prefer my trems to be floating (like factory spec on the Luke), is it the case that the Floyd on an Axis rests against the body and therefore can only bend downwards?

The neck on that Axis is beautiful!

I like that a lot about the Axis, in fact it's more figured than it looks in the photos, and the top has more of a flame than the photos would suggest as well, especially from different angles.

Yeah the Axis floyd does not float, ie. goes downwards only. There are times i wish it was fully floating but then the tuning stability is better when resting against the body.
