Yeah he sure was/is still playing the 25th, but I'm guessing that this picture is from the early days of his career.

Yeah the link says battle studies but the pic/headline on the website is for the "room for squares" album, 10yrs ago.

Regardless, mayer is a favorite artist of mine, and it's cool to know a ball is used offstage/on the albums. agreed, he looks a bit younger there. could be wrong though....

Thanks for confirming that BP! It's awesome that he has the EBMM stuff in his arsenal. I hope he uses it for the next record and tour.

Really? So... Wow. Wonder why (as the story goes) he worked all year after highschool and saved for his SRV signature guitar if he had this quality Silver axis all along... I guess the same reason anyone gets other guitars, different sound, feel, etc.

Any more details you can share on this axis, bp? This is blowing my mind as a big Mayer fan and a recent convert from f3nd3r to ebmm guitar glory.

Well Mayer owns over 300 guitars of all makes and models, as you can find the video on Youtube. Am not much of a fan like I am of Bonamassa, who uses mainly EBMM and Gibson guitars. Joe has some of the best and wildly tricked out EBMM guitars on the planet, and he deserves everyone of them.

For me, whats so mind blowing isnt the fact that mayer owns or uses ebmm guitars... Thats been known for some time now, with the 25th anniversary and all.

Its the fact that given the info bp just told us, it blows a big hole into mayer's tale of how he has always played f3nd3rs, and how he worked for a year to buy the srv signature (its true im sure, but he never traded in or sold the axis). But before any of that f3nd3r business, when given a choice of buying any new guitar from his grandma, he got an axis, and has had it throughout his ride of fame. Sure, even on the room for squares cover theres a novax guitar, I understand the man uses other guutars, but this original axis purchase is exciting news to me.

I'd just like to know a little more about it. The srv guitar he has is a 96, so I'm guessing the axis is a 95? First year for them?

Again any other info on the guitar would be great!

It could very easily be that he got the itch for a Fender after having had the EBMM. The Axis is awesome if he had the patience to work to but the SRV instead of selling to buy like many of us do. Good for him.

Here is him rocking the 25th

For what JM is playing these days, an Albert Lee makes more sense. He's into those Stratty in-between tones on his recent stuff. I dig some of the trio stuff.

the trio is some of my favorite stuff he's done. i will go on a JM journey and listen to mixes of everything he's done over the years and you can see the maturity and growth through it all musically and lyrically... just a great talent.
