Just got my JP7!

of course i bought it to play it, but it's not nice to know that your guitar paint might crack whether you treat it well or not.
I know lot's of guitars have this "problem" but this doesn't mean that it wouldn't bother me.
I have a stratocaster from 1982 and the finish has no cracks, and an ibanez from 1992 that also doesn't have cracks.
EBMM are better than ibanez and fender in my opinion so even if it has a stress crack it's still going to sound better than those, but one thing is if I make the damage (obviosly when you gig and play your guitar for a while it's inevitable that something happens), another thing is if it just "damages" its self.
this might sound silly, but I pay extra attention to my guitars, and I already don't like it when it's me that dings them, I would be even more pissed to see it ding its self

I bet G1bs0n will be bringing out a self-dinging guitar soon. They've already made a self-tuning one, we might eventually see one that plays itself so all you have to do to be a guitarist is stand there.

I agree. I'm completely anal about keeping my guitars as nice as possible! Especially ones I pay $1K+ for! It's just awe inspiring to see such a beautiful instrument that is free from dings and scratches. I don't like the 'worn' or 'faded' look...

I bet G1bs0n will be bringing out a self-dinging guitar soon. They've already made a self-tuning one, we might eventually see one that plays itself so all you have to do to be a guitarist is stand there.

They already have pre-dinged, they call 'em Custom Shop Relics, and they run a couple thousand dollars...per ding.

Every one is different. I've seen them come that way, mine developed it after I owned it for a year or so. Just depends really, every one is going to respond to the elements in its own unique way. It doesn't bother me but the finish on my JP6/JP7 isn't as cool as MD. Shoulda got MD.

My theory on why they develop this crack is this: Their neck pockets are much tighter than your avg. neck pocket. Seriously. The finish is not flexible either so it wouldn't take much. Given those two things together and you have the stress crack. Tone wise I like the tight neck pocket. I have a Jackson bolt on which weighs a bunch more than my Pets but doesn't have the sustain as the Pets by any means. I attribute it to the neck joint primarily. The EBMM is a much snugger fit.
