Just got my new JP BFR...Did they change the case and certificate?

Hey guys,

I've been an avid reader of the forum, but decided to join, as I just got my Black Burst JP BFR. I had a Mystic Dream original MMJP, but sold it after it encountered some accidental damage.

I am absolutely in love with this guitar! The quality on these things are SUPERB! On par, if not better than the QC on a PRS, Suhr, Anderson, etc.

My only question is if the case has changed. I am almost positive that the previous cases were brown and black, with a body form fitted case. The one I have, is all black leather, with a universal BFR guitar form fit. If any of you gig with this case, I'd appreciate your thoughts/experience on this. I'm considering having a Rockhard Case made, which will be custom form fitted to this guitar is specific...the only caveat is the price of $500 . However, this is the first guitar I've had that I WILL NEVER sell, so in the long run, its an insurance policy lol.

I've attached some pictures for you all to see of the guitar, and the case in question, as well as the certificate of authenticity. I kind of like the older laminated ones better, but I guess this is cool since it has the specific color of the owners guitar on it. I'll probably get this laminated so it doesn't get bent or anything, as its paper.

All your feedback is appreciated, and if anyone has any tips on setup, or anything, please share!

Also, what is everyone's experience with Finger Ease? I've never used it, but hear mixed opinions.

Well as stated those are the cases that are used now, which I really like. I can understand your traveling concerns as that case is more class than bullet proof. When you say insurance policy, if you are only going to use the guitar to record or keep in one area I would not spend $500 on another case,unless it is going to be on the go a lot. I think laminating the certificate is a good idea,and boy that is one hell of a sharp looking ax. Congrats and enjoy.

The case has the same internals and fits the guitar the same way, the only difference is it is all black now.

Yes, the BFR certificates were updated around two years ago and now come in a classy BFR labeled envelope.

Just wanted to make sure... I was looking at about 14 different BFR's and had everyone send me pics of the actual guitar in stock... This one just happened to be at a guitar center, so I was especially worried lol

Thanks for all the compliments on the guitar...

What do you guys recommend for cleaning? I currently use the dunlop stuff, but have heard of other products.

Also, whats up with the Finger Ease? Some say it ruins necks, others say it doesn't do anything harmful at all

Hey Jay,

Welcome and congrats! That is a very fine looking BFR JP.

I don't use anything except the Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes on my guitars. It works great for me.

Looks great man, welcome to the site! And I may be wrong, but I believe the certificates all have pics of the blackburst on them. I believe my Cherry Burst cert. has a picture of a blackburst on it.

I did originally when I got it(iPhone pics though). I'll be getting my Bahama in the next couple weeks or so and I'll just take pics of both and do a new post then!

Thanks everyone. I swear, these BFR's are made WAY better than my standard first run JPMM's. I didnt think I was going to like the painted neck, but I do!

Have any of you swiched to 9's? I've always played with 10's on my MM's, but bending the B, and E strings above the 15th frets all day is kinda of a pain...

9s for standard tuning and 10s for half step down for me.

JP's guitar tech just posted on the JP forum a few days ago that JP is now pretty much using the hybrid string steps with 9s on e through g and heavier gauge (10s) on d-e for his standard tuned guitar.
