Question Just how much would the lightweight tuners help?

My Big Al 5 is fairly heavy (at least heavier than my Ray) and I'm wondering if swapping out the tuners for the new lightweight ones would help.

1. Will the new tuners work on an earlier Big Al?

2. How much weight difference would it make?

You can't switch out the newer tuners for older ones because the hole on the older ones is larger. I have also heard there are other reasons why with things not lining up or something once the older holes are drilled. But to answer your question, the new tuners are noticeable lighter. Especially on the headstock. On my Bongo's, I never had any neck dive but I could feel the that area of the bass a lot lighter than my other Bongo's.

just for reference the weight savings is half a pound, whats the weight of your BA ? My SSS is just over 10 and the H is 9.5 At least if you get a new Bongo it will have them. And HH Bongo will be a great fit with your other two MM's

Interesting. I'm usually quick to advocate LW tuners, but I've never felt the need with my Bongo 5H - it has very neutral balance.

He didn't say it was with the newer EBMM ones! I have seen a SR5 with Hipshot Ultralite tuners. The screw holes from the original tuners were showing and it wasn't too pretty, but it can be done.

A wide leather strap with suede backing, slung an inch or two lower than usual, is the easiest solution if you are one of those people afflicted by what people claim to be "neck dive"
