Hi Guys.. got a few questions, tried a search and didn't really see any answers...
I recently bought a stingray 4HH(graphite?) and now I need an amp and and speaker setup (I'd prefer not using a combo)

Things to know.
1: I'm a drummer and am just learning how to play guitar/bass
2: currently I plug directly into my board(01v96) and listen via studio monitors or my Roland TDA-700 amp (form my roland td20 drums)... needless to say it sounds ... not great
3: I wanted an Stingray because I love 'that' sound... decided on the HH because I wanted versatility as well... besides the price was RIGHT on the bass... if I don't suck in a year... maybe a bongo 5... but I digress
4: I won't be playing gigs anytime soon (well not on bass anyway)... so I don't need a lot of power want a fairly portable rig, that can also act as a pre- for my mixer

My questions
1: I'm in Los Angeles... and have gone to GC in an effort to find a nice rig... my budget is 1K... I'd goto 1500 if I REALLY liked it... I found a combination I liked at GC,but there's a lot of nice gear that frankly GC doesn't carry... there have to be better options than GC here??? and no... sam ash doesn't count :p

2: my first choice of sound right now is the markbass LM2 and the 210 cab... I tried the HD500 they had it marked down to 397!!! but changed it to 549... (lol I have the 397 pic on my phone cuz I thought it was low... anyway... the HD500 even $150 cheaper just didn't do it for me... I liked the LM2 it has a tight fast yet thumpy sound, which is why I bought a stingray... the HD sounded tubey mellow and warm... which while that's great for groovin, I like the percussive sound I got from the LM2(the only REAL downside I saw was no mute button...

Anyway, any direction anyone could give would be greatly appreciated... my fingers are really sore from playing... but I need to have a real rig... :)

P.S. I am also kicking around trying the SWR marcus miller pre-amp... and pairing it with a QSC or crown amp... and a 2x10 cab... it'll cost a little more... but It'd be a more versatile solution which would serve me well if I don't sacrifice the sound I'm going for...

sorry for being so verbose on my first post...

cheers,
-ryan

Welcome to the forum. I hesitated to answer this because I am selling a CMD102p, but that's what I would recommend for your situation. It's a great little combo...LM2 amp with 210cab. I think that new they're over $1K, but that and a TU-2 tuner (that you could use for a mute switch) should still put you well under $1500...and it's got enough power to add an 8ohm cab if you need to push more air.
