it is unbelievably improved. Went with Jescar stainless steel frets. More of a medium jumbo is what I prefer so it is very different from the low profile ones that it came with. It's incredible how smooth the stainless steel is. It is like glass underneath your fingers. Smooth as ice. Very minimal tonal difference. Well worth it.

I wanna get my L3 HH redone soon. I'd go with that size which I am guessing is similar to the size on the new Cutlass (which is spectacular!!!)

I specifically went with the Jescar FW57110-S. I brought several of my guitars in to the repair guy who was going to be doing the refretting and we measured all the guitars fret height and width. My intention was to pick new fretwire that would be most similar in size to some of the guitars I own that have frets I like. Worked really well. I think I'm going to do my JP soon because I've already had to get it leveled twice and I don't think the height will be satisfactory if it gets leveled a third time. Won't have to worry about it anymore if I get stainless steel.

I'm surprised you feel a need to refret the L3. Having just received mine I was surprised how tall the frets actually felt, compared to my original Luke. I like them :)

I should have clarified that - I am NOT the least disassisfied with the fretwire on the L3's. Its just when it is time for a re-fret I will likely go with a SS fret and aim for something a little bigger like the Cutlass. Its not a huge difference.

I don't care about what the artists like. If i will put my money, i have the right to choose. I do not buy guitars because of any artist.

I agree... SS frets are my choice. They are so much smoother and wear so much more slowly. I love them and hesitate to pick up anything that lacks SS frets. I passed on the most recent PDN run because no SS frets. I passed on a couple of Axis BFRs (prob last to come out of factory in hazel and blueberry burst) because no SS. I can't justify spending 3 grand then going for a refret on top of that.

I've been playing SS frets since I got my JP6 and they have not shown one bit of wear and still feel like freshly crowned and polished nickel frets :)

What if you or more importantly the artist doesn't care for SS frets?

I understand that some people may not like SS, but I honestly believe that 4 out of 5 players would prefer the SS if they tried them side by side with a guitar equipped with the typical nickel frets.

I get that too and I'm personally fine either way. But I still think it's not really a big deal ... honestly, how many people get regular refrets? How many times will you need to do this over the course of owning an instrument?
